Urban is a good choice, would've preferred someone like Michael Fassbender for the role, someone who could give the role a bit more meat, but hey! Now lets hope the movie world sits up and takes notice of 2000AD's other brilliant characters such as the ABC Warriors and Slaine...

but i guess its early days. the Stallone effort wasn't terrible, just not a true representation of what Judge Dredd is about. for such a young, inexperienced director it was entertaining enough in a blockbuster kind of way

Pretty excited now, Urbans a decent actor & with Wagner involved all the way (hopefully) things are looking up, I'm a bit concerned about the 3D prospect, I dont see the need for gimmicks just make a solid film that'll stand on its own, but then again the prospect of seeing Dredd at the Imax fills me with joy!!!

The screenplay has been leaked - it's easy to find if you search Google. It's a Die Hard/Bullet time rip-off. And if you don't believe me, please read it. John Wagner's words about this being faithful to his source material is ******. He's not being honest. As I say, read the screenplay and then ask yourself "is the best story they can come up with one where Dredd's stuck in a block for the entire film, one which shamelessly steals from Die Hard?"

Garland's screenplay is shamelessly unoriginal, a cynical way to write Dredd. The fact Wagner supports it is very sad. The whole venture is a bit sad and pathetic.

The world really deserves an awesome Judge Dredd movie-lets hope they do it right this time(all the signs are that they will).

If not, I'll go 'Hi-Ex' on 'em!

Says someone that's not even read the screenplay.

I have read it. It's Die Hard set in a MC-1 block. Can you get that through your head! Sigh. Do you have to be so ignorant about this? What signs are that they will do this right? How is Dredd Hard the right way to do Dredd? Tell me.

He's not a bad choice, but they really should have chased Aaron Eckhart.

Look at the chin! Hes perfect for the role: http://tp://static.reelmovienews.com/images/gallery/new-a-lister.jpg
Urban looks a little young. I'd always pictured Dredd being quite old, 40's maybe.

Still early days and it sounds promising.

(ok, so I cant get an image to show.....click the link!)

Dreadhead123 you're troll! Get a life chum! I've read enough of the leaked script to know it has the potential to be an excellent movie and at they very least, far more successful an adaptation than the earlier film.
Besides, it's similarity to 'Die Hard' is at the most superficial level-just like your vacuous comments!

You are such a moron. A dumb ass moron.

You know nothing about the potential of Dredd. Wagner has sold out Dredd for his consultancy job. He's getting paid even if the screenplay is a stinker. Rebellion have sold out Dredd the way they sold out the Dredd vs Death game. Go Google that game and see the reviews. They weren't good. History will repeat itself.

And you're still a moron.

See ya.

I don't think the first movie is great by any means, but it doesn't deserve the vitriol it gets. Some aspects - the production design, animatronics, Silvestri's music - were top notch. Stallone was fine when he kept the helmet on. I also think when directors/producers go on about how amazing their film is going to be when they haven't shot one foot of film sound unbelievably arrogant. And Cannon's film came out in the mid-90s, not twenty years ago...

So you're comparing a 7 year old videogame with a film that's only at the pre-production stages?
I must admit I find your logic and critical analysis most insightful!
And what exactly makes you such an expert, may I ask?
I think I've read 2000ad long enough to form an opinion all of my own, without the help from an internet troll!

Or are you going to post your excuse for a script, aye?

I see the PR shills are out on the web in full force with this announcement lol as usual. Sorry, but this flag won't fly. Casting Urban to play a rough, gruff futuristic lawman? Really? The only way this might work is if virtually every aspect of the Judge is changed. His entire look and feel would have to go out the window in order for urban to believable. I'm not surprised by this casting at all though. Hollywood seemed to have a grip on the comic book and cartoon movies for a little while there, but they have certainly lost it now. The last Transformers and Iron Man 2 were proof enough of that. And please, don't quote the trumped up Box Office numbers as proof of success. Attendance is way down, especially in the key demos for these sorts of movies. Why do you think Hollywood is faking losses on every movie they make now? It's the only way they can make any money off the garbage their spewing out.

The main villain is called Ma-Ma.

Hee hee.

Sounds so naff. This new Dredd film could be hilariously awful. There is potential for Garland's screenplay to be a total disaster! It's Dredd Hard. Ohhhh!!!

"Or are you going to post your excuse for a script, aye?"

My screenplays totally nail Dredd's world (accepting I'm not Mr Wagner of course). But Empire's message posting rules prevent my posting samples here. Oh what a shame! LOL You'll just have to take my word that they rock!

That's a fan film coming soon. Looking good.

And here is a Dredd remix song I did:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69PkBX-_l-Y

I didn't do the original song, I just added Dredd's voice to it. Please hear the song with headphones on or via a hi-fi for best Dredd audio thrillpower!

No, it's not music to my ears. Hollywood types are like tricks that promise you the earth and you wake up the next morning with a few grubby bucks on the bedside table cursing yourself for being a fool for trusting them. I'll believe it when I see it, don't believe the hype. Judge Dredd with Sylvester Stallone came out in 1995 and it wasn't a Cannon movie. It had promising moments, but it's way too short and ends far too quickly and they should have cast Joe Pesci instead of Rob Schneider who's a pain in the ass as the irritating Fergie. You can bet that this new movie won't have the epic feel of the Stallone movie, it doesn't have the big budget.

A word of warning to anyone who tries to engage.

'Dreddhead' and 'dreddhead123' are the same person.
He is a chap who goes by the name of scojo- I will not reveal his real name here.
He has been banned from ALL the 2000AD boards (I'm a mod on the offical one) because of his lunatic behaviour.
I recommend ignoring him, if not actually banning before he destroys this place.

Karl Urban mentioned the whole shoot, the keeping on of the helmet and the fact he was playing Dredd back in July.

More on that here
