With the Brit list now closed and while we calculate results, arrange blurbs and get the list itself up (we're thinking of posting a top 250), we thought we'd get this one started so people can get recommendations and get watching.

This poll will cover the following countries/territories

Japan
China
S Kor
HK
Taiwan
Thailand
Malaysia
Mongolia
Vietnam
Cambodia
Singapore

If there is a territory within this area you think should also be included, please ask in thread and we'll in or exclude it. The western limit is pretty much Burma.

Our preference is for lists of 100 films but we're opening the discussion at 50 films to see how many takers we might get. This is one of the reasons we've widened the geographic area, so hopefully that'll be a success. We're also open on the timing. It was just under 2 months for the British list, but I was thinking, with people on holidays etc and still wanting to try new films, that we might close the submissions down at the end of September?

So - proposals

Lists of 50 or 100
Closing date - 30th September

We really hope we won't have much in the way of eligibility issues with this list as American talent and money isn't as much of an issue but any queries will, again, be dealt with in thread.

We've got some fantastic national cinemas to choose from here and we're looking forward to a brilliant range of recommendations in the final list.

Count me in. I won't be able to submit a top 100 only a 50 though. Is it possible to have both?

Asian cinema is not my fortι, so whilst I could probably scrape a list of 100 together, I couldn't guarantee that those nearer the bottom would be ones I'm particularly fond of.

I'm confident that I could rustle up a top fifty that I'd be very happy with though, so I'd prefer that to be honest.

I think so Rinc - I don't think we've been overly bothered by the discrepancies for the Brit List. BUt we thought we'd ask up front.

I'll add your name up top.

Yeah, I'm happy with both.  I want to put in a list of 100, but I wouldn't want anyone to feel forced to do a list that big if they didn't want to, so having both options is good.

Out of curiosity, what is Russia?

I need an excuse to vote Andrie Rublev and Mirror in here.

Russia will probably come under Eastern Europe - partly a Eurovision thing!

All I'm going to say now is that Peppermint Candy will definitely be above Secret Sunshine.

I might see more things from Taiwan before I vote. I've only seen Yiyi and I was a bit disappointed by it.

I'm not out of Sth Korea and I have 40 films. I may have a problem.

Well the director's previous film was shot in Canada, so she may have raised funding that way through contacts and that's why it's got the co-listing for America.

I'd say to stick your name down and see how you feel, there's a few months to the deadline, if you can't take part at the end then there's no harm done.
