This is superb comedy which marks itself out as a classic bu engaging us with a unique plotline. Phil Connors goes through all the stages of mourning for his own life when he realises that he is living the same day over and over, before accepting it and starting to think of how this might give him an advantage in life.

I can imagine this film being done today with someone like Ben Stiller or Jim Carrey and being just another throwaway nonsense piece rolled out over the summer months and accompanied by awful overracting. The one word which strikes me when watching Groundhog Day is effort. It has a brillaint script, is perfectly paced, and every scene, every gag, every gesture seems to have been carefully honed.

Bill Murray is at his absolute best, and how ironic that he makes this a film you could watch over and over again.

completely agree. if it was made today it would just be an ego fest that ould be in the top 10 for about 2 weeks. Again, I know I sound like a broken record but, it was made by people who blew us away in the 80's and managed to keep that spirit going. I only wish more films could be made like this.

It's very droll and very sweet. I adored Bill Murray in this, and even Andie MacDowell is torelable. I love so many of the gags: seeing how Murray deals with learning to cope with the benefit of hindsight.
