Hello and welcome to a poll to find out who this here forum thinks is the greatest director OF ALL TIME (OF ALL TIME!).

The rules are simple. You have to pick the 25 best directors of all time, from 1-25 and email them to empire100directors@gmail.com. You can vote for anyone who has directed any kind of film, short or long. From Chuck Jones to Béla Tarr, if you think they've done something worthy of your list then vote for them, and they shall be counted.

I'll keep the poll open for about six weeks. I'm on holiday at some point at the start of August, so i'll end this and count it then.

A thank you to Mr Piles who made the banner at the top. He should totally have his own film website with photoshop work like that. What's that? Oh.

If you want to change your list at any time, just email and let me know like.

Might as well post them I figure. Unless everyone would rather do the email/PM thing.

I vote for pms/emails. It keeps things more of a surprise if there's no chance to see what's being voted for.

Can do. But what the hell would we talk about in this thread? You can't keep asking if the films are British here.

Use it to pimp underrated directors we think deserve a vote?

Russ Meyer cast women with big breasts in all his films.

Vote Meyer.

I say we should all vote for Tarkovsky and Fellini. Just to keep the great ones in the poll.

Oh and I toyed with the idea of implementing a You have to have seen X films by a director rule, but then I realised I couldn't be bothered and I couldn't force people to stick by it anyway.

Right, please, don't vote for any of these (I like a lot of them, but please):
Spielberg
Hitchcock
Kubrick
Jackson
Malick
Miyazaki
Anderson
Ford

Rubbish idea, to be honest. If anything, this would promote more widely seen directors.

But we know these directors are beloved already! Hell, I'll thrown in our common fav Kurosawa, because it's so fucking obvious he will do well. Oh, and Jeunet.

Because we already know they are some of the greatest directors of all time, and some of them are really not, anyway.

The guy made the worst film ever made, this discredits him immediately. Quality over quantity.

Don't vote for Ford or Hitchcock in a top 25 directors list?  That's crazy.

Why does it matter if the obvious choices do well? This isnt a poll to throw to light 501 directors Miles needs to see.

But what's the point of another pure consensus list? Who cares whether Empire prefers Scorsese or Kubrick? With films, we at least had a variety of 100 and so the bottom of the 1000 had some great and interesting choices, but the top 100 (so the top 10 here) was dull as fuck (except for the amazing top choice, but you know)
