Don’t think they can rush it. It’s basically got the same GCI to live action ratio that Avatar had. Sure it will be somewhat less complicated, given the environments and number of characters involved but from Caurons initial pitch it sounds like a technically challenging project. The opening shot alone is a proposed 20 minute steady cam shot! Cauron is too good a film maker to do a rush job on this I think… or at least I hope! As if it’s done right this will be stunning.

 Clooney coming on board could be a good save, the film needs a champion at the moment and thankfully Clooney knows how to play Hollywood. Still a shame RDJ dropped out but if you need another actor to fill the void then George is a pretty good bet.

November next year apparently.

Not her biggest fan either but I’m never drawn to any project by those in front of the camera. And the guy behind it on this will have me front and centre on opening day.

 So the synopsis has been released: “Bullock plays Dr Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky [Clooney] in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone–tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness.

“The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.”


Sounds great, HOWEVER I think I saw this exactly story in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager.

 Sounds like a very cool idea! Being a BIG scifi nut, i'll lap it all up! And it will be nice to see an 'intelligent' sci-fi flick along the lines of Moon (which i love) and Sunshine (which i love, regardless of the head trippy ending!).

But regarding Children of Men, i have to say that when i first watched it i was woweed by it. I thought the directing by Cuaron was truly magnificent. The one take shots? Freakin awesome to say the least. But after a while i started getting put oof by the film. Was it the premise? Was it too 'cold'? I think BOTH were the reason. The premise, although sci-fi , is still too far fetched. To me Blade Runner is a more viable future than that of Children. I mean i REALLY doubt mankind will start going sterile! And the 2nd point, the. Film was too cold. Both visually (which i get) but also story wise. There was not a single character i really cared for, no not even the woman (i forget her name) carrying the baby. Or even Clive Owen.

Which is a shame becuase everything else was awesome about it.

Heres hoping Gravity will be much better an experience for me personally.

And yes, i agree that Cuaron's Harry Potter is excellent. Thats when Potter started going the adult route. It was more scary and grittier. And the Dementors looked freakin dementing!

Was always going to be similar to another sci-fi story somewhere, but Gravity won't rely on a Deux ex Machina in the form of Voyager of course. I thought they had to get to the ISS somehow.

I didn't realise Bullock had company in space, guess it was too much to have one character for much of the movie.

Nice to hear the confirmation of an IMAX run for the film but surely a trailer is due pretty soon. Perhaps WB will attach it to the Hobbit, with Pacific Rim and MoS But very keen to finally get a look at this!

Looks like Gravity is beginning to take hold. Trailer Addict have a teaser trailer on their site now and are promising the first full trailer tomorrow.

Im getting rather excited from what I've seen of the teaser, the Space Shuttle takes a hammering and Clooney gawps at something like a village idiot (hmmm) and i think i am going to be sick if i watch it in IMAX if that astronaut/Earth spinning camerawork is anything to go by :-)

 My God! Without doubt one of the most impressive trailers I've even seen. EVER!  Stunning! Absolutely, flat out stunning!!!

This will be an excruciating and claustrophobic watch I think… especially in IMAX! Going to be intense!
 
And now we better know what to expect from that rumored 20 minute, no cuts opening shot. On the visuals shown here, that could be one of the most impressive shots ever committed to film.

The trailer is so intense! 2 hours of this will be borderline unbearable… in the best possible way.   Looks tailor made for an IMAX screen, that’s for sure… here’s hoping for 70mm prints, so it fills the encore screen!
 
Hoping they run this before ST at the BFI IMAX on Sunday but I think the trailer may have been released too late for that.
 
Do we know if it was shot natively in 3D? Or is it a post conversion job?
