After the masterpiece that is Children of Men I seriously anticipate anything he’s attached to. And this sounds like it could be great. As much as I did enjoy Avatar the prospect of that kind of tech in Cuaron’s hands is very exiting indeed. Hopefully, given the gritty CoM battle cinematography, this could be a more hard edged big scale sci fi offering than Avatar turned out to be. Like if Cameron had made Avatar as his next project after Aliens... with a bit of luck:

http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/06/16/alfonso-cuarons-gravity-will-be-60-cgi-opening-shot-is-over-20-minutes-long/

And I was impressed enough with the eight minute shots!

Can't wait for this!

His style of direction was the main star of Children of Men for me and his Potter flick , Azkhaban , is one of the best of the series .
Gravity is sounding more and more like it could be a lot of things that Avatar should have been . Each time i read something about Gravity i'm thinking 'the new 2001' .
This and Inception are the only movies i'm truly mega excited about seeing .

Cuaron is the balls and it's a shame other projects he's worked on haven't come to fruition but Gravity sounds very cool - I'm hoping it will be a measured, intelligent (yet exciting) science fiction film. That's a rare breed of sci-fi film these days and aside from Moon and Sunshine there haven't been too many in the last few years.

A little confused about the casting on this though; Jolie was in but is now out and according to IGN Robert Downey Jnr is making an appearance but isn't actually starring. Has anyone else been announced for it?

Not sure. Hadn’t heard that about RDJ, I though he would be the lead. Mind you, as much as I do like him he is ever so slightly overexposed these days. Might be nice to get someone else in if he now only has a small part.

Yeah, with you on hoping for a deeper slice of sci fi with this. I’d hoped that films like District 9 and Moon would usher in a new era of intelligent and original sci fi films and I’m sure Gravity will stand along side them. If he is indeed using the Avatar tech (and it sounds like he is) I’m even more exited to see what such tools will accomplish with such a talented director.

This and Carl Erik Rinsch’s ‘Small’ are two of the most exiting films on the horizon for me. But when we’ll actually see either of them is the question…

Well, cross dressing seems like the next logical step from ‘blacking up’ to me!

RDJ’s parties must be wild indeed!

I don't care how great Children of Men was, my experience Avatar thought me that I cannot trust anything and anyone ever again, that everyone is evil and is out there to hurt me and upset me. And becuase of that, I won't be excited for this film until I see it.

When I read the logline I wasn't filled with that much enthusiasm, Angelina Jolie plays a mother traveling across space to get to her daughter. I just imagine her sitting around looking sad and watching some home videos of her and some cute child actor.

So looking forward to Gravity. Cuaron's a fantastic filmmaker, so I'd love to see what he pulls out of his hat here.

Not entirely sure about this. Probably just a rumour but either way I suppose if anyone can get good performances from his actors Cauron can:

Jolie's overrated, Johansson's not a particularly good actress and Blake Lively is an unknown quantity to me.

I'd rather Cuaron went for an older actress than ScarJo or Blake; I can't see either of them doing justice as a mother literally travelling across space to reunite with their child.

Jolie I could see in the role but I'm not really a fan so I'm glad she's keeping her distance. How about a Naomi Watts? Or in fact Naomi Watts.

This movie cannot be allowed to gather dust on some shelf so WB had better wake up and come to their collective senses . The main attraction for this project for me was firstly the Director and secondly the premise and idea itself . Is Jolie's non interest really that big a deal to cancel the whole thing ? ...... no way !! The 'art' comes first always .

Fan of his continuous shots in Children of Men? Imagine this

I'm with others that Jolie is not my first choice here at all. But I'd happily see her play Ryan if it's the only way we get this film. This film absolutely needs to be made! If this is one continous shot the tension will be next level in Caurons hands.

No matter the cost, get this made!

This sounds excellent. I would have been happy with Jolie as I think she's very capable and lets face it easy on the eye.
Either way the director and the premise is what sounds interesting so lets hope they sort this one out.

It was an entire discussion that occurred in lists where they discussed whether Children of Men should be considered eligible for voting or not due to its director/country/mood etc...

Interesting debate - I assumed it was British because it was made by a British production company independently from a Hollywood studio (which distributed when complete rather than financed the production - like Universal does with a lot of Working Title's films).

Anyway - the Jolie replacement has thrown up two names; both of which are awesome: Rachel Weisz and Natalie Portman. If the rumours are to be believed then Portman has officially been offered the role and Weisz has been approached about it.

Imo Weisz may be the better fit for the character from the sounds of it but the role could be a real leap for Portman into more "mature" roles by playing a sole survivor & mother desparately trying to get back to her daughter. Either way if one of these two take it then I'll be a happy man.
