http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/kinect-predicted-to-rule-christmas-in-uk-903938

Microsoft Kinect is predicted to be this Christmas' most-wanted tech toy, according to a new industry report.Market research outfit Ipsos says that Kinect will be the most popular gaming hardware in the UK in the run-up to Xmas 2010.Ipsos claims that 13 per cent of Brits intend to buy a Kinect this Christmas, compared with only 11 per cent who are planning on investing in a PlayStation Move controller. That said, Ipsos' research also adds that Kinect is perceived to have more "uniqueness" and "believability." Kinect more believable than Move?"Given a new usage experience, one might expect some level of scepticism among respondents for Kinect," reads Ipsos' report. "Surprisingly, though, Kinect excels on both uniqueness and believability... PS Move is rather weak on both dimensions." "While there are a lot of factors other than consumer appeal that influence demand, the underlying potential for Xbox Kinect looks very good." Kinect is finally out in the UK on November 10. Not long now!

I was in my local Game store yesterday - I picked up 2 xbox slims - and the manager asked me If I had pre-ordered Kinect. I told him I had and asked him if the stories were true regarding high demand - piddly amounts if stock!

He said that they had been allocated a huge amount of stock last minute due to higher than expected initial demand. He did say that pre-orders were rapidly rising. He did say the stories may be exaggerated a little but that Kinect is doing very very well.

My wife's buying me this for Christmas, so as I was never gonna get it "for launch", I never bothered pre-ordering.

Now it's out of stock everywhere - especially Zavvi, who had a really good, relatively cheap bundle (£145 including Dance Central).  Grrrr!

I'm pretty sure it'll be in stock again before Christmas, but I may have missed out on a cheaper deal...

From what I'm aware of once the current "phase 2" pre-orders end i.e. the non-launch but pre-christmas run out, the next batch will be in February.

A useful site for pre-orders here.

Good news:

quote:

If you’ve pre-ordered your Kinect motion controller and are eagerly awaiting its arrival next week, apparently there’ll be a surprise in store when you fire it up.

At least US website Gamers Mint is reporting, and we’d hope that the included surprise will be present in UK Kinect boxes, too.

So what is it? Well, not only will purchasers of the peripheral get Kinect Adventures to play with, but also a triplet of demos of Kinect launch titles will be tucked away on the disc.

The games in question being Ubisoft’s Your Shape: Fitness Evolved (a fitness game which includes various workouts, yoga, martial arts and all sorts), Dance Central (a dance game, surprisingly enough) and Kinect Joyride (a driving game with an invisible steering wheel).

Except I've already pre-ordered 2 of those demos.

I fully expect to see Joypad users looking stupid without the use of glowing vibrators.

I had this when I pre-ordered my Wii from the Game site all those moons ago, unfortunately Parcel Force will be holding onto your parcel in their depot for the next week or so, I honestly doubt you'll be getting it early.

I had a look at one earlier today, got a load of them in at work including my promo one (but not bothering going on it as I need to request my gamertag get added to a Microsoft list so that I can access an update which is only on specific servers or... and here's the killer on the Kinect Adventures disc, the only game unavailable to non MS staff before launch! Bastards.

Yeah I thought they might be keeping hold of it for a bit. Maybe I could go and pick it up from the depot...I am off work for a few weeks so have the time.

Where do you work?

Don't some games have the option of uploading videos and pics to the internet?  Or at least allow you to send them to friends?

As for the demos, if you see an actual Kinect box it has a PEGI rating of 3+, but a sticker saying "Demo content has been rated 12+".  I'm looking forward to playing the Joyride demo, as I'll probably be getting Dance Central.

Had my copy of Kinect out today, not had chance to play it, will leave that till tomorrow, but I'm impressed by the product itself.

All I can say is, it's a lot bigger than I'm sure any of you (myself included) will/did expect, it's a very meaty device, a lot of depth to it too. And some massive vents on the side, which I'm unsure of what theyr'e for? Just for the mics? Does it get hot? Or does it have some audio out capabilities also, with inbuilt mini speakers?

It's well presented in the box too which is nice.

But it's a sturdy device, very heavy and well built, it'll survive falling off your TV if someone were to knock it off which is always a plus.

Lauch day in the States today. And only 6 days until it comes out here!

What game are you going to put on first?
I'll probably try Kinect Adventures first followed by  a session on Your Shape. After that I'll try some Sports before partying the night away with Dance Central.
