I'd be more inclined to get on board the Kinect bandwagon if it was more like Move to be honest. I can't imagine playing a game with no input device at all. For example how the hell can you play a lightsaber game when you're receiving no feedback from your controller?

haha my neck is wound in. That nonsense wasn't a malicious nonsense. Wind your neck in.

The PS Move uses the PlayStation Eye camera. Gran Turismo 5 for instance uses head tracking, so it is kind of nonsense to suggest that you can't use a DualShock controller and an PlayStation Eye (which is an integral part of Move) at the same time like you can (in theory) use a contoller and Kinect.

http://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5s-head-tracking-explained/

Ok fair enough!

That seems fair enough but I would have thought that Kinect would be (or well it should be) a more advanced PS Eye. Yet you cant use the move wand alongside a typical controller. I think I was trying to say that it should be integrated into hardcore games to enhance them much like the move can be easily integrated into PS3 games. I agree MS should have shown more on this. MS only concentrated on the family games. Sony showed how Move could be integrated into all aspects of its games. Kudos to them for that but I am much more excited about the Kinect as I cannot escape the Wii comparisons with Move and I sold that within about 4 months. I may do the same with Kinect but I hope not!!

Plus it would be abnormal to play a driving game by just waving your hands about as well

Socom looked absolutely terrible to me, if that's the best motion control has to offer for the "hardcore" then I'm out.  Pointing the wand at the screen to aim might excite some people but not me

I try to get on board with this arguement, but I can't, it's not like when you swing a Wii Mote or Move and your sword or lightsabre hits another sword or lightsabre that it stops your arm from swinging and resists, or that it slows down when cutting through somebody, it just vibrates at best, which doesn't help with an arm swing either.

However I get it for bullets and knowing you've been hurt if something is vibrating, but for swinging your arm about, it doesn't make a bit of difference for me.

However I'm in agreement, I have very little interest in Kinect, but if some games can interest me then that's a different story, however the launch games don't, and I just hope they don't interest the other half, as I don't want that crap taking over my 360!

The GF saw a video on Game.co.uk website and really likes it.

I've shoved it on our Wedding List, just to be cheeky! Hopefully (with fingers crossed) some generous guest of ours might get us it.

Some feedback is better than none IMO. At least you have some kind of confirmation that the lightsabers have struck when using a wiimote or the Move wand.

Some pretty cool looking dashboard & Kinect features are going to be heading our way. I know Kinect has a lot of haters and doubters (which is fair enough as E3 has put doubt in my mind - especially the unconfirmed price) but I for one am very excited about the potential of this thing. MS seem to be throwing alot on this - its not just about the games for Kinect its also about the new features this can bring. Id gladly pay up to £100 for this if its bundled with a game.

(The ESPN demo is not a Kinect demo - he wimped out from that one! Looks cool anyway)

ShopTo have listed Kinect at an RRP of £129.99. Obviously this isn't confirmed but it looks likely that it will be north of £100 anyway. What do people make of this? Will you still be purchasing or holding off for a pre-owned unit or a price cut?

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/shopto-puts-kinect-at-GBP129-99

Also, it seems that only two people can use Kinect at the same time. It supports up to six people but this is only in a jump-in, jump-out way by taking turns.

That's wank.

I'll be holding off on buying, possibly not buying at all unless I have to.

If it is £129.99 that's rather steep, you can buy an entire Arcade 360 for less than that. I know it's not confirmed obviously but I'd be seriously suprised if it isn't around that price point.

As for the whole two people at once malarky, it's a bit shit but if I'm being honest there's barely room in my front room for two people to dance around like tits let alone four or six, etc.

Blah, blah, blah. Not confirmed by MS and pure speculation. Blah, blah, blah.

I went on shopto two weeks ago and looked at the kinect option. I then accidentally pre-ordered StarWars Kinect for November for £45. This game won't even be released this year. The prices are made up from the top of their heads. This is not news people.

I know's it's not quite the same but I was shocked yesterday when I saw that Games was selling the Elite for £199 and the PSP for £229.

Are you still convinced it won't be $150 Stateside? And I did specifically mention that it's not confirmed but it's the first indication that we've got of a UK price so it's worth mentioning. I also put the title as RE: Kinect £129.99?. Notice the question mark.

But you still repeated an unsubstantiated rumour that you posted a week ago and has had no new information come to light?

Err no I didn't. The one a week ago (which Bortsal I think posted as well) was that Microsoft put the price of Kinect on their own website at $150. This story is about ShopTo putting the RRP on their website at £129.99. I think that's worth mentioning when some people on here are claiming Kinect will retail for as little as £69.99.

ShopTo CEO says preorders are "very low" unsurprisingly

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3180188

I wont be touching it since my Wii is right there under all that dust. Also at this price why bother when I can get 4 new games? Or even more that arent so new. I predict the whole thing will flop.

Moving away from imaginary price wars, do you think Kinect could be the answer to getting complex games like Civ 5 on the console without sacrificing functionality?

Kinect only uses your hands so no, for RTS titles etc some buttons are necessary.

Well you can hold a controller as well, so yes, if done well it'd be better than keyboard and mouse.

At work (HMV) it's down as £149.99 which I was surprised at when I went to pre-order one for somebody. So it's probably gonna be around £130 most places.

I think anything over £100 is too much. Its fast approaching console prices and thats not good. I have pre-ordered mine from Game but I dont want to spend the money on a new slim xbox and then spend £130 on Kinect.

Does anyone else think the Logo is a bag of shite? its really basic - I hope they spruce it up a little

You know thinking back I paid £110 for the HD-DVD drive a few years back!

Mind you, when HD-DVD players were selling for £400-500+ it seemed like a good buy, plus the 360 was still £279.99 back then, so the drive felt felt like a lot less than it actually was.

Not really. Hand gestures or on screen buttons would work. I said it earlier in the thread that this 'could' herald a fully working PC equalling RTS.

I think you could have motion controlled menus and hotkeys combined with voice control. That could work...

The thing with on-screen buttons that you 'touch' is that firstly, these have to be quite large and also spaced out so you can accurately touch each separate button and not hit two or three at the same time. This immediately means you either lose a lot of space on-screen for the actual action or you only have a few buttons. Secondly, when you 'touch' these buttons it's not instant. What you have to do is hold your hand over the 'button' for a second or so so that the game knows you intend to press this button and didn't just hit it by mistake. Watch this video at around the 3:19 mark to see what I mean:
