...which scares me as it might mean there's something to it. Who in their right mind would give such a potentially visual feast to the man who preferred an underlit warehouse for the Department of Mysteries than JK Rowling's vision of "birds in belljars" etc etc. If Yates' HP films were a colour - they would be beige....possibly taupe . I hear its very soothing.

That dude made Harry Potter worse than it should have been, bring it back to Jackson for a that is sacred, hell even Micheal Bay is a better option at this point!

Order of the Phoenix wasn't great, but Half Blood Prince was fantastic. HOWEVER he isn't right for the Hobbit. At all.

Haven't enjoyed a Potter film since he took over directing duties. Pheonix and Half-Blood were awful. Alfonso or Jackson FTW !!

Why is Peter resisting directing this movie anyway? Seriously, what else has he got going on (other than Tin Tin).

Peter Jackson is really the only person who can bring this to the screen.

Could David Yates Direct The Hobbit?

No. Get a director with a bit of vision that doesn't come out a can.

Let Peter Jackson just say "Oh Go On Then! I'll Do It!" Because all this crap of rumours and dropping out and production delays, its getting closer and closer to "development hell" People want this film made, and more importantly people want Peter Jackson to direct it.

If Peter Jackson wont do it i'd rather see him mentor someone like Alfonso Cuaron in the ways of middle-earth

Jesus Christ! This is actually becoming tragically funny. Everyone and their warg wants PJ to direct this but they wasting even more time looking for "the right guy." For the record Yates is not th right guy. HP is a decidedly average batch of movies.

... a real great auteur / directeur would direct The Hobbit. I would have been happy with Del Toro or Jackson at the helm but why not dream a little... I would love to see Peter Weir or Terrence Malick directing something like that!

They can't go from Guillermo del Toro to David Yates (absolutely nothing against him, heard he's lovely), it's just not fair on anybody. At this rate, we're going to be left with Bret Ratner, for Christs sake Pete, please just finish what you started!

Dont cry for a film the bitch how it turns out unless you want to stump up the ££££'s and pick up a camera, shut the fuck up and sit down.

This maybe wouldn't be a bad idea. I am not a Harry Potter fan, but I can appreciate the look of the film, which are quite comparable to LOTR.

I said as much on another website yesterday-Alfonso Cuaron all the way! He knows a bit about such material, he directed the 3rd and best of the Potter films, produced Pans Labyrinth-working alongside Del Toro and directed Children of Men. He can encapsulate some of Del Toro's ideas I am sure and add his own.

David Yates is one of the worst directors working today and the reason why the HARRY POTTER movies have become dull. He's a bland hack, just like Chris Columbus. I don't why David Heyman chose him to direct POTTER 5, 6 and the two-part Seventh installment. And he doesn't deserve that Best Director award he won at the Empire Film Awards two years ago.

Also, I really do hope MGM will burn in hell. It's their own bloody fault they've gotten into that mess. If I read one day that MGM have lost their HOBBIT rights to someone else (probably Time Warner), I will be very, very happy.

we do not need the hobbit turning into a shitty kids adventure with dullness up to our ears, peter jackson should stop bitching and just make it himself, then it will perfectly fit into the other films!! or bring back Del torro! PETER FINISH IT OFF

I thought he did an alright job with Potter 5, considering it was one of the weaker novels and a rather bulky entrance at that. However, the better Deathly Hallows story was a bit of a let down in terms of adaptation to be honest. Either way, he ain't in the same league as a Del Toro or Peter Jackson, so this is a big no for me.

Ive never been a fan for the Harry Potter films, so I cant comment if he turned his outings on the franchise to shit, but everybody here seems to critize him for that. I think he is a good director, and I say that based on his directing on the grim TV drama Sex Traffic from 2004, pre Harry Potter. Check that before U hammer the guy for Harry Potter!!
As for The Hobbit.... Never a big fan of the Rings film either!!! Enjoyable films, but not as great as they say.
