Hmmm, I am currently reading this very awesome book and am about 3/4 of the way through. Whilst Craig wouldnt be my first initial pick for Blomkvist, I dont think he would do too shabby a job.

Bring on the American Version!!!!!!!!!
I worship American Cinema and can't wait for Let Me In (the original didn't mean that much to me)

By the way, I'm a New Zealander

I haven't seen the original, so I don't know the character, but either actor working with Fincher is cause for orgasmic excitement. That is all.

Craig would actually be a quite good choice... eventhough I'm against this whole remake-swedish-hitmovies-thing.

I've read the books, and seen the Swedish film. Michael Nyqvist was, to my mind, perfectly cast in the role, I thought the film was amazing, very intense, and sufficiently true to the book.

Artistically there is no need to remake this film, but I can understand the financial argument so I guess it's inevitable. And if it is, I'd love to see someone like Daniel Craig playing Blomkvist. I'd pay to see that version, certainly.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

What’s the point of re-making a perfectly good film that came out last year?! Break out the meat balls and Daim bars and read the subs you uncultured muppets!!!!!

Haven''t read the book but the Swedish film came across like a BBC crime drama turned up to 11. Very OTT in other words.
This has potential though.

In anyone else's hands I'd say a big fat no to this. However, with Fincher I can't see how it could fail and perhaps not even improve on the original...which, by the way I thought was brilliant. Not entirely sure where jascott is coming from...were we even watching the same film?!

I'm in the middle of reading the 3rd book of the trilogy and they're impressively written and you just want more. Lisbeth Salander is probably one of the most interesting characters i've read since Hannibal Lecter. I went to see the first film and really loved it and Noomi Rapace done a really amazing job and she put everything into the part, getting herself pierced and living the character and for me it's hard to imagine anyone else playing her. Casting an unknown is a good idea, at first i read that Carey Mulligan might play her and i dreaded the thought, couldn't imagine her going for real piercings!! Daniel Craig isn't a bad choice but i think they should keep looking, maybe cast an unknown like they're doing with Salander. As for remaking these films, i don't know, i'm in two minds about it. At first i thought there really is no need for a remake as the swedish version was spot on, same goes with Let The Right One In and secondly i think the good thing about a remake is that it will have more people paying attention to this trilogy which it very much deserves.

Craig is good choice. Not so sure if the film needs to be made. One thing is I don't know if anyone in Hollywood could be as harsh in their portrayal as Noomi Rapace, and if you compromise on that then the story wont work as well.

I have been following the development of this since the beginning.

My heart is on Ellen Page to play Salander. I can see Page and Craig making an incredible (mis) match. I think that they can both carry a film but most importantly they will look totally at odds with each other.

The biggest problem is setting this English language film in Canada. I do love Fincher but I can't see him recapturing the atmosphere of the book and the Swedish movie.

Not a name that would've sprung to my mind, but I actually think he could be quite good as Blomkvist (if, as you say, he tackles it in the same way he did Enduring Love). He'd be infinitely better than Pitt as well

Really hope this pans out - Craig has been my number one pick for the part since I saw the original film.

Don't get me wrong. I love Fincher's movies (although I haven't mustered up enough energy to watch Ben Button yet; is that a good idea or should I take the plunge?), but maybe Craig will finally break Fincher of the whole "I do 108 takes of the same scene" thing. Because as much as Fincher seeks perfection in his films, I don't think he or any other director has ever justified doing over 100 takes of the same scene. It seems that that represents a lack of trust or communication of a sort in the process of filmmaking. But again, yes, I like Fincher's movies, but that part of it makes no sense.
