I really hope they stick to their guns and keep it in go old fashion 2D. Id much rather they spent the money on making the film the best possible film it could be, rather then spending time and energy faffing with current money grabbing fad.

If done well (which I'm sure it would be) this should be amazing in 3D! I really hope they shoot the film in 3D and don't convert it later or something..

Come on MGM! Stop crying over your rights to the film and get a start date in place. Think of all us LOTR fans just waiting for this film in the cinema and give us some consideration! Also, NO 3D for this film please. It doesnt need it. The story is too well known and too well loved to have to add 3D to increase its impact. MGM STOP IT AND SORT IT OUT! 3D? Get your coat and nick off!!!!!

with del toro and jackson both still on board im sure the films will definately go ahead, but if one of them were to drop out because of all mgms troubles i can see the films in movie limbo, with the casting as long as they have mckellan and serkis in the main roles the films should be a winner.

I'm not really a fan of 3D but when done well I think it can enhance the storytelling. How To Train Your Dragon is the best 3D film I've seen so far. Avatar looked spectacular but what I remember most was the shite script and predictable plotline and that is why I hope I never see it again. But Jackson and Del Toro! That would be something! I trust them to give us something worth watching in 3D. I would expect to see wonderful visuals with great dialogue and amazing casting. The Hobbit is a perfect story for this kind of film making. Can't wait to see this.

Avatar sucked hard but that wasn't because of the 3D, it was because the characters were shit and the "story" was worse. If they have a great script the 3-D will not enhance that, nor will it take from it. It'll just be....there. This is a project that's losing momentum...fast :)

When will you understand that people don't go to see a film because it's in 3D.

As for The Hobbit, whenever I'm waiting for the kettle to boil I go and do something else. Jackson/Del Toro should try that.

Such a shame. Del Toro is such a talented director and, not being a LOTR/Hobbit fan, can't help but feel he's going to be tied up with these for the next five years which means we probably won't see anything else from him director-wise.
