You have to change the name from the ''50 greatest...'' to something else. There is no way in this universe that Gordon Freeman is 1, while Mario is 2!! Maybe you should think of ''50 most memorable...'' or ''50 most influential...'' or something, but definitely not ''50 greatest...''. Samus at 26? Kratos at 15? Are you high?!?! You might as well put the Harry Potter, and the Ginger-breadman in the list as well! I've been playing games since the days of Atari ST, Commodore 64, so I've seen my fair share of game characters and this list is definitely going to be very insulting and revolting to respectable gamers everywhere if you keep this ''50 greatest...'' caption. Since you are a Film Magazine website, you are probably excused for your lack of insight, but if you want to keep your credibility as a reliable gaming world magazine then get rid of this list. I do, however, like the little back history you give to each character.

Gordon freeman it's in my opnion the gratest character of all, in fact gordon freeman is you, that's beacause he don't say a few word, half life is one of the most (or even THE MOST) revolucionary games of all time, all the other FPS games are inspired by half life,and its not a repetitive game like mario, in half life we have different chapters with different enemies and bosses, some enemies (like vortigaunts and headcrabs) are basic enemies, thats because they appear in all charpters,that require good skills and strategy and a bit of survival skills. Thats my opnion.

I see a lot of Nintendo fans complaining about this list, but in my opinion, this list would suck if it was just and only Nintendo characters. Plus, think of this list as not from worst to greatest, but just overall awesome characters.

sorry that Dante in 38th place but it could be worse like Mario is not to understand or just the developers of this site with Mario more friends as they grew up on this player among all of Dante's many aficionados around the world as opposed to just well, Mario Mario used to be them, I took to compare Mario, I do if you honestly look bowled over the list once more desire than anyone else nismotret Dante!

What about Spyro and Assassin's Creed? And Sonic should definitely be higher, in the top 10!! And I think Pokemon should get a mention....after all it is a long standing franchise.

It seems like this list was comprised by a semi-niche gamer from the 70's that forgot to include what is actually recognized by society as some of the greatest characters in gaming. True, there were quite a few great characters chosen (roughly 15-20/50) but so many bad ones. I'm not sure how some of them can even be in the same list. As an avid gamer, there were a few on there I didn't even recognize... On a list of the top 50 characters, even non-gamers should be able to recognize all, if not most of them.
