I've only seen Halloween so far from the works of John Carpenter (he did contribute to The American Nightmare documentary, but I didn't count that one) and I liked it. I didn't praise it as one of the best horror films I have seen, but it was an enjoyable experience. I agree that this has become cliched because of the various imitations out there, like Romero's Night of the Living Dead- sorry for going off topic with this legendary horror film, but I think this is a great example of something that was really impressive back in the day, but has become cliched as it aged over time. The fact is that the music, from Carpenter himself, really gives what could have been another low budget horror flick that edge of errieness that makes it stand out. I haven't seen it in a while... but I know that it was an enjoyable slasher, that would probably be one of my favourite slasher horrors, along with Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream (sorry about mentioning these Wes Craven films too!)
