Awesome film maker. Like Kurt Russell said, you can watch ten seconds of any one of his movies and know that it's his.

Halloween is a horror classic and one of the greatest chill flicks ever.
Escape from New York is a retro-future classic unlike any other sci-fi in many ways.
Prince of Darkness is a creepy, mind screwer with some real gore.
In The Mouth of Madness is fantastic. Has a nightmare like feel to it, and some really interesting ideas. Kingesque!

I could go on...

And yes, I think Vampires is a cracking film. James Woods as a Vampire Hunter?!?! Come on!!

Love The Thing, Vampires, Big Trouble in Little China a lot have not seen In the Mouth of madness but really want to. But I was dissappointed by The Fog and They Live. Christine was quite good.

I think Vampires is terrible. The Fog is brilliant, have you seriously not seen Halloween?

No I have not watched Halloween have seen Halloween 3 : Season of the Witch and Halloween H20 years ago. But not really a big fan of Slasher films however I do love some of the Nightmare on Elm Street films and the Scream series have not yet seen scream 4. Vampires seams to be a love it or Hate it film but I like James Wood and he was great in it.

Considering that would include The Fog, The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, Prince of Darkness and They Live, that's an estimate that needs correcting.

Seen as this thread just came back out of nowhere, I'll just come out the closet and say I love Ghosts of Mars. Proper stupid, tacky fun. Quality entertainment especially if you watch it with the Carpenter / Henstridge commentary.

I think John Carpenter's Vampires is also an underrated film. Its not as bas as some people make out, in fact its quite enjoyable. Even Ghosts of Mars is quite fun to be frank. Although you can argue its nowhere near perfect as previous vintage Carpenter films!

The Fog was really dissapointing for me. I think there was one decent scare in the whole thing but it ended up being a lot of build up and then..nothing.

The THing is far and away the best thing he ever directed. First fil mthat comes to mind whenever somebody sas favourite horror.

Watched The Thing yesterday night for the first time and loved it. Then watched Ghosts of Mars thinking "Is this the same director?!"
