Obviously I wont be giving away and spoilers, but to those who are going to watch it on Bravo, my advice is to stick with it.

The pilot isnt that great, but it gets really, really good, up there with the best TV of the year.

I've been watching this and can only reiterate what other have already said - stick with it!

Admittedly it's starts off as if they're trying to hard to impress you with the ridiculously high levels of violence, sex and swearing (did Roman's and the like actually call each other "fucking cunts" back then?) but don't let it put you off - it is quite good.......it's 300 the series with more tits n'arse!

OK so I'm interested in this. I mean SERIOUSLY interested, but I will be honest here; how historically accurate is this series? If it truly is 300 The TV Series I know I'm going to switch off very quickly. I'm a complete history buff and if this is something that I'm going to end up picking apart because things aren't right I'm just going to end up pissed off. Rome was accurate, how close is this to Rome or am I going to end up being so annoyed I throw the remote at the TV in order to switch it off in a huff?

EDIT: Yes, the Romans had all kinds of wonderful swearing that we can only dream of. Latin translations just don't do the swearing justice.

It is actully pretty accurate, indeed it gets more things right than Kubricks film. Yes, it does have a visual style which is 300 esque - but it has the plotting more along the lines of Rome. It is a little OTT at first, but the creators used the pilot as an experiement to get the feel of the show - as it goes on the story telling gets better and better and all the actors become comfortable in thier roles.

By the end it is made of pure win and so utterly awesome. Keep with it, and give it a chance, and you will be rewarded. The way plotlines are resolved will surprise you.

I didn't like 300 but from the ads this looks decent.  Will give it a couple of eps.

They dial it back a bit on the 'splatter' effects after the pilot and its a lot better for it. Really, stick with it and you'll know what everyone is raving about.

I loved it. Im glad dad didnt stay up to watch it though, I did tell him about it as he is a Spartacus fan and my brother didnt stay up to watch all of it- it was too long. How long are the rest of the episodes though?

I was fully surprised by the full frontal nudity and sex but i enjoyed it. and the violence and gore. was great! I wont say I was as hooked as I have been with Lost or Heroes, but I will stick with it!

That was amazing, just finished watching the first episode and am still stunned by what I saw. You can see that they were showing off with all the close-up, slow-mo gore but it worked and it seemed to give it a graphic novel style look people have said that it gets better as it goes along and I cant wait.
The nudity and sex scenes werent overdone and they were handled well, and boy was Erin Cummings (Spartacus' wife) hot.
I'm really looking forward to more character development and a deeper plotline but if what people are saying about future episodes is true then I have nothing to worry about.

roll on episode 2

Just spent the last 3 days downloading the full season in HD (nearly 20GB!!!!). I've just watched the first episode and I wasn't overly impressed. I liked it enough to watch the next episode though. I'm glad I downloaded though as I'll stick with it now. If I was waiting for Bravo to show it I probably would give up on it. I'm glad to hear it gets better though. That gives me optimism.

I must say though, does anyone else think that the use of greenscreen, rather than make something more pic and large scale, actualy makes it seem more small scale and low budget? I think it my be because I know exactly how it works through seeing countless DVD extras. It's just a few people on a sound stage in front of a green curtain. So when it shows a shot of the large crowds in the gladiatorial arena I know it's all fake so I don't buy any sense of realism. Maybe I'm nitpicking.

Just watched the second episode. Loved it. There was less stylised blood splatter and use of greenscreen, so it felt a lot more real. The acting was better too. Boss.

Hmmm, the Roman's armour is about 150 years too early and as for the pubic hair, that's a no-no with the high-born ladies.

It's not bad though, I'm pretty happy with it other than that. So far.

Im currently watching the first ep online. Im glad Ive read the promising reviews here first because the acting in the pilot is pretty horrendous.

But i will take reassurance in what has been said here and hold out.

I will most likely buy the DVD when it comes out since I like watching things all in one go.

yeah there was the making of that came straight after the pilot episode, but I didnt watch it because I feel that it takes you away from the immersive experience if you watch the making of before watching the next episode.

I enoyed the show. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it cause I thought it looked naff based on the trailers but I'm glad to say it's not all good looks. Seems to have some meat to the plot aswell!

The guy who plays Spartacus is actually an excellent actor. I hope he does well on the back of this role.

At the start you think the characters are all just dumb meatheads, but there are some very nuanced and subtle performances among the splatter. I couldnt recommend this show highly enough.

I really didnt think I'd enjoy this because I wasnt too struck on 300.  Must admit, I initially thought it was way OTT and it took me a while to get into it but come the end, I actually really enjoyed it and am now looking forward to seeing more.

Is everyone here watching this on there own or what? Before it first aired I tried to get dad to watch it but im bloody glad he decided not to, but even so watching it with my older brother is still a bit... embarrassing. It comes across as soft porn with lots of swearing and killing in between. (though i think they are the magic ingredients as to why i enjoy watching it! )

No I watch it alone, I knew before that this show had lots of sex so I didnt recommend this to anyone in my family in case they also wanted to watch it, same thing happened though with True Blood I didnt realise how much sex there was goig to be and that was a pilot episode I watched with my dad!

I'm hooked on this show! Though last night I was blushing, my god it's rude!! I didn't know where to look!! All in all though a great story and the characters are starting to shine. Hopefully this just goes from strength to strength!!

Mum thinks I'm a perv because I watch it .

Am I the only one who wants that Roman to die already? His smug face makes he want to reach into the screen and punch him repeatedly.

John Hannah is quite excellent I think.

Just watched the 1st ep. Can't decide whether it's class or crap but I love Roman stuff so I'll give it a chance.
