http://studiocanalcollection.com/

heres the trailer for the collection it's very good - Trailer

you might have seen the new library of BD movies from Studio Canal such as Pierrot le Fou and The Deer Hunter.
some titles that are on the way include, Mulholland Drive, Breathless, The Graduate and The Third Man.

they started off expensive but now are down to about 15.85 on Zavvi if anyone is interested in picking up some of their titles, which come in sexy covers and sometimes include a booklet.

does anyone own any of these titles or is anyone even collecting them?

I have the Godard's (Le Mepris and Pierrot Le Fou), and look forward to picking up Mulholland Drive, The Third Man and Breathless in September. As a collection its a little bit too eclectic for my tastes, it doesn't appeal to the obsessive collector in me (unlike MoC or Flipside).

Packaging aside, are the transfers any good?

Breathless keeps getting put back, wasn't it supposed to be a March release originally? Will be getting that, The Third Man and Delicatessen when they're released.

Actually, is the packaging any good re the disc security? It reminds me of the Nathan Barley packaging which was problematic at best

Yes, surprisingly so. The disc is held in place by an incredibly sturdy circular discholder, and theres very little chance of the disc slipping out. I too was concerned that the packaging would be a case of style over substance, and completely impractical, but thats not the case. I'd take photo but it doesn't do it justice.

The ones for Pierrot Le Fou and Le Mepris are great. The transfer for each film (according to their website) is brand new too, which is a surprise. DVDbeaver compare the Criterion and Canal Pierrot Le Fou discs here -

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/Reviews/pierrot_le_fou.htm

I can't speak for the none-Godard titles, but like I said above the transfers are all brand new.

Yep, it was supposed to be march. There was a manufacturing error, which saw a number of Pierrot Le Fou packages carry the disc from Breathless accidentally. As a result both Pierrot Le FOu and Breathless are being "officially" released in September, but Pierrot is available now from most places anyway.

THanks Adam - I've not had good experiences with those central card thingys, but it sounds as if improvements have been made.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread with a bunch of new releases due next month (roll on Mulholland Drive!). Peeping Tom, which is officially a part of the SCC is up for a great pre-order price on amazon at the moment (8.99), which is insanely low for one of these releases.

So has anyone else got any of Wave Three pre-ordered? Its a pretty exciting line-up, I have Mulholland Drive, The Third Man and Breathless all on pre-order, and am rather tempted by the Graduate.

I've just noticed that on the cover of The Elephant Man there is a glaring typo! Anne Bancroft is spelt "Anne Brancroft"! How on earth this got through the channels of editorial usually required for such products is beyond me.

My Pierrot Le Fou, which I bought in May, has Breathless on the disc instead of PLF!! Can't believe it. Hoping HMV will refund me, in spite of the fact that its been an age since I actually bought it. They're aware of the issue as they did a product recall in February, so I'm hoping it won't be too much of a problem.

Yep, me too. Got one for The Third Man too. HMV have also offered me a refund for my defective Pierrot Le Fou, even after all these months!

So today I watched The Graduate from this collection. Brilliant film but damn that picture quality.
It was restored all right, way too much IMHO. Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft looked like they walked right out of Madame Tussaud`s... The more the film reached the ending the more it started to annoy me. It looked like they DNR`ed the hell out of it.
I hope that they tone that down with future releases...

Two great titles to release!
Wondering if Criterion will do a re-issue of La Grande Illusion and release To Be Or Not To Be, since they do another Lubitsch next month!!

To Be Or Not To Be is said to be coming out on Criterion yeah. Unfortunately SC have claimed Grande as their own, so Lionsgate are putting out the above edition in the States.
