who thinks all these remakes of foregin language films are a teeny bit xenophobic. i mean, is it really so hard for people to read the freakin subtitles?

hmm... I loved Let the Right One In but does it really need an American remake? I suppose if it is good it might bring more attention to the original and it gives Moretz a chance to branch out...

To be honest, I don't think remakes of foreign films do so well at bringing attention to originals as remakes of older English language films. Also, I can say that for my part, I can't stand reading subtitles for an entire movie, no matter how well they are done, it just takes me out of the film having to read. We have 5 senses (well probably more like 9-21, but, you know), and we use 2 of them when watching a film. If there are subtitles, for the most part we have to use our eyes to both hear and see. If you think that sounds stupid, well that's for you to think, but the only film I even was willing to watch was Pan's Labyrinth and tbh, I think that would have been better with decent dubbing.

I have only just seen the original this weekend and cannot think of a good enough reason for this to be remade. Anything it tries to do will not be anywhere near s good and therefore it is always goiing to fail as a film. Hollywood needs to stop wasting tmee and money remaking films that were perfect in the first place!!!

Agreed with the Guardian on this: "Rightly or wrongly, the qualities people associate with "foreign" movies tend to be the same ones to which many US film-makers aspire – sophistication, worldliness, restraint and finesse. If a movie has succeeded on its home turf, meanwhile, there's a sound financial argument to be made that the same story will click with a wider audience, once you've got shot of all those pesky subtitles.

Trouble is, the moment the studios get their hands on these movies they seem to instantly lose faith in them, gutting out all the things that made them distinctive and replacing them with sentimental homilies and hackneyed cliches. It's like a huge case of buyer's remorse that ensures every property that crosses the Atlantic ends up stripped of the very elements that made it worth remaking in the first place."

This actually looks fine, Cloverfield is a good movie and both actors are all kinds of awesome plus Richard Jenkins is in it which adds points of kudos, but... i just can't get excited about this!! I adore the original to the point of obsession and any news about this film makes me parentally protective. Will i see it? probably, my curiosity will overtake, but it upsets me that the remake will make vasts more amounts of money and get more recognition.

Moretz just doesn't have what it takes. She was annoying, affected, and I dunno.....obvious in Kick Ass. Such a let down (both actress and movie).

This might actually be good. I loved the original but there's a lot of really interesting stuff in the novel that went untouched. Besides the subject matter is so interesting it deserves multiple interpretations.

Why oh why does hollywood insist in remaking brilliant films for a lazy yankie audience who couldn't be arsed reading subtitles? Count me out of wasting my time watching this. weather its shite or not I've seen the original and read the book, there is no way Reeves will be allowed by the wigs funding this flick to explore the darker aspects of the book. thats totally obvious, for example, by mortez's character being called 'abbey'..... the vampire girl's name 'Eli' is a shortened version of their name for a reason in the book and the original... a remake of a modern day classic for the brain dead generation of movie goers....

The Design and photography in those two stills, are already falling so far short of the original...

I loved the original. But can't help but feel this is going to be a waste of time. Just like Quarantine to the original [Rec].

You people do know the original film was based on a novel. Therefore, you can't call this a remake, since they're saying it's their interpretation of the novel, not the film. The shots aren't going to be the same, it's just so a wider audience can enjoy the film. I didn't get into the original, I'll give this a chance, since Chloe and Kodi are both good actors

That line of logic would only work had they not seen the original and organically came to adapt the novel, that is clearly not the case.

Not the same shots? That second still looks remarkably like the original but perhaps with warmer tones.

That second picture looks almost exactly like a still from the original. Their obviously trying hard to make them the same. Which begs the question why bother at all, if its going to be made to be the exact same film it just makes me think that the only reason its being made at all is simply because too many people cant be bother to read f**king subtitles. It wont be a patch on the original either way, one of the best films I think I will ever see.

Why is it that all of Empire's reporting on Let Me In fails to mention that it will be the second new theatrical horror from Hammer Films in over thirty years? Beyond The Rave was Hammer's first web serial. The first proper theatrical outing will be The Resident, starring Hilary Swank, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Christopher Lee. Hammer were meant to return with the co-production The Wake Wood last year, starring Timothy Spall and Aidan Gillen, but pulled its name from the production after filming. This was a shame, as many fans were looking forward to a smaller, more home-grown product. Even though Let Me In is a remake, it will still be interesting to see if Hammer can add anything more. They should at least be trying to maintain the quality and spirit of the original.

Most US style remakes are for people who can't be bothered to read subtitles. Unfortunately, there are a lot of you out there.

Like someone else said, I didn't think much of the original. I found it too cold, ironically. I felt nothing for the characters. There's no reason why a remake can't bring in a bit of warmth, so I'm all for this.

Besides, not all remakes are pointless/rubbish/bad. The Fly, anyone?

I don't think this remake is as cynical as so many people think.

Like you I didn't think that much of it but it doesn't make it any less pointless. Without trying to sound anti-American the whole thing I think will lose part of its semi-realism; yes, there are vampires involved but still the Swedish original had excellent, unremittingly dark cinematography and a gritty feel to it. Hollywood may go for the same angle but that's just it: I know they are just trying to replicate the original.
