I think he should do one more rambo movie involving maybe the sci fi or horror element.

I think hes right not to do another. Rocky Balboa finished off rocky, and I would like to think Rambo finished off the Rambo series.

Films like The Expendables and maybe another Cop Land esque film is where Stallone should be going now.

On the one hand it's a pity, I'd love to see more of the old style 80's violence.

That said I think Rambo ended with as near as that character could concievably get to a resolution. He's no Rocky.

Probably best to end it then. On to The Expendables!

I like Stallone's movies, but he is such a whore! He has no shame. The only reason he resurrected Rambo and Rocky was because his "future" was in the toilet. He's kept the idea of Rambo V alive for a while now and just happens to turn full circle as the publicity for The Expendables goes up a gear? Give me a break. He's so confident about his new movie, he thinks he's safe to be all honourable about his last one.

I'm truly sorry to be cynical. It really isn't like me! But he used to do this sort of thing on every film. I remember during the publicity for Judge Dredd, he said The Speicalist didn't work as he'd hoped, but Dredd was the best thing he'd done. That bombed and during interviews for Assassins, he said Dredd was bound to fail because it was based on a comic, but now he'd made a proper film! Yeah, we all remember Assassins, don't we? Course, later he made Cop Land and we got all the rubbish about how he was leaving the blockbusters behind.

Whatever. The Expendables looks awesome.

Had Stallone's career not had the slump it did in the Nineties and early Noughties, he probably would've never revisited Rambo. Above all else, Stallone's a considerable writing talent and he used one of the most famous character's in his arsenal to give his career the necessary boost. Having now got the required momentum and obviously happy with the way The Expendibles has turned out, he sees no need to go back to the Well.

The character of John Rambo should be left alone! Leave him where Rambo IV ended. John Rambo goes back home after Who KNOWS how many years!! Mr. Stallone is right at not making anymore Rambo movies. Let John Rambo Have peace in his life after YEARS of Fighting, Blood, Guts, Horror and Running! John Rambo should live out the remaining years on his father's farm...in Peace!!!

Excellent news. Just as Stallone completed the journey of Rocky Balboa in a satisfying and sensible manner so too did he finish the story of John Rambo; I had goose-pimples when I saw that last shot of him walking the 'long road' and finally coming home. Obviously THE EXPENDABLES has franchise potential but Sly is talented enough to pursue different projects as well.

Whilst i agree that Rambo 4 was the most satisfactory ending a fan could hope for, and adding to it would just screw things around, i still can't help but feel let down.

I did not hate the fourth film but do not think there's anywhere to go after it and I am still not convinced that this is the end of Rambo. Hopefully it is because the fourth ending was pretty definative.

...should be more a drama, rather than an action flick, where Stallone gets to work his acting chops. I would love to see how this character that has experienced such extremes, settles back into society in a small town. Psycho 2 did this quite effectively with Norman Bates.

...but part of me still wishes we'd seen a version of the script that was floating around in the 90's. Where Rambo infiltrated an American Militia group and came face to face with Brian Dennehy's sheriff from First Blood. Now that would have been full circle! That said, I'm glad he finished it the way he did. Peacefully.

It was a very good way to end the film and I'm glad that they have chosen not to do another.

This means that somewhere in Hollywood there is a script that says the son/daughter John Rambo stands alone in the jungle as the super mutated part man part animal crouches ready to attack. and a script that says John Rambo U.N rep fought off the terrorist no knowing it was his son from the second film. And monkey in a suit is signing a cheque to put it into production, We will just change the names it'll be fine.
STOP NOW!!,
DO NOT DO IT!!

I've seen the speech Rambo gives that was cut from the film on the extras of the DVD and it's excellent. It should have been included in the final film. It's almost as if Stallone was ashamed of the good piece of writing he'd done and took it out so it wouldn't get in the way of the wham-bams.  I think Sly ditched the Rambo sequel because he seems to have created a new franchise for himself with "The Expendables" and doesn't need Ol' Rambo anymore, plus, Sly got seriously injured working on "The Expendables" and I think it's hitting home that he's not a young guy any longer and that he has to hang up his M60 and rocket launcher some time.

P.S. How many times has Sly said Rocky and Rambo were finished only to bring them back yet again? The only time we can say they won't be back is when Sly croaks.

I think that Sly, after all he's injuries during The Expendables, is starting to feel the limits of his body. Even though he's in amazing shape, his body won't be able to pull of crazy stunts without taking critical damage.

Isn't that poster pose straight from Rambo 4? You know, after the final scene... looks very similar. And why would there be posters in Cannes in the first place if the production hasn't even started... silly.

I would welcome yet one entry to the franchise gladly, since 4th one really was excellent, beyond all expectations. Stallone really knows his character, and wrote perfect script for Rambo 4. And his direction was perfik too, action-wise. If there'd be fifth one, it would be incredibly powerful to have him die in combat at the end. You know, sort of finding peace he never really had after Vietnam. World's most iconic killing machine filling his purpose once more, yet after the battle finds himself mortally wounded and welcomes death with tranquility. I really love the character and all the movies, but I think this would be great way to end Rambo's tale if done with dignity. I would cry my eyes off tho.

The ending of the last one SPOILERS ******* When John Rambo is home again seemed appropriate, besides I think Stallone can only takes so many vertebrae's being fused, ripped ligaments and tendons, general body boo's boo's that a 60 + year old should not have to endure, not to mention too much creatine.

Not in the mood to do more bone-breakin' stunts following The Expendables, huh, Sly?
