I too think this is great. There's some much anti-Whedon sentiment (particularly towards Serenity which I loved) already in other forums but I think Whedon will handle the ensemble characters very well.
Just hope it doesn't fall through.

I'm not really a comic book guy but I always watched Ferrigno's Hulk as a kid... Wasn't he a 'good' guy? (albeit a bit messed up with anger-management issues). Should I have been rooting for the army fellas all along?

And all the other dudes - aren't they good guys? So if they're all really good guys and there's no evil baddie to be defeated then - what exactly is the point?

Oh - and who's playing Steed?

The story goes that Loki (god of being cheeky) tricks Hulk into destroying train tracks so that his hero half brother Thor, comes to the rescue and Hulk beats the ever loving snot out of him. The message that the tracks are damaged is sent to Thor but is intercepted by Ant-Man, Wasp and Iron-Man. When they get there, they realize it's a dodge, band together and lay the smackdown on  Loki. Ant-Man say's "let's be a team" and they're all like "solid idea bro"  and Wasp calls them "The Avengers"! So, Hulk decides to bounce because he knows he's a loose cannon and the others think he'll wig out and kill someone. Ant-Man takes his syrum, or whatever he does to shrink, backwards and becomes Giant-Man then gets a massive headache coming up with that brilliant name. The Avengers then try to find Hulk and capture him. They get into a fight with Namor The Sub-Mariner when wasp giggles at the little wing things on his ankles and during the fight, they knock over an Ikea Billytm bookcase and they find Captain America behind it sleeping of a 40 year old coma! They make him a "founding member" and go get smashed in Cabo until Baron Zemo, Kang or Doctor Doom do something to spoil the fun.

To answer your question, yes...they are good guys and Loki is the baddie and I have no idea who's playing Steed!!

Really can't decide if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Big Fan of Joss' work but i love what the Jon Fav has done with Iron man. also loved the last hulk movie and the ang lee one before that. i just think out of all of them Jon Fav has the best grasp of what makes a great superhero movie.

But The Fav is doing Cowboys Vs Aliens...

Weedon is a great choice... because you'll know he'll shoehorn Fillion in there. Possibly as Hawkeye.

Great choice but I just hope it doesn't end up the same way as his 'Wonder Woman' effort of a few yeras back, got so close on that one and it fell through.

Top choice in my view, with Fav producing, it's a great team.

"Joss Whedon Directing The Avengers? He's in final talks!" I swear I almost squealed in excitement. Anyone who says he can't pull it off are in need of some serious Buffy/Serenity marathons, as they will notice Whedon can juggle a large ensemble cast and knows his geek culture proper. also he missed out on directing Wonder Woman so he more than deserves the shot at directing what is definetly going to be the biggest superhero flick of all time. Now all he needs to do is hire Nathan Fillion...

I'm not really a fan of Whedon's but even then appreciate that he's a very good writer within genre pieces so from a script/character point of view he could bring something to it. His relationship/work with Marvel is also a strong point.
However he hasn't actually made an impact as a director yet so whether he's up to that is still in question - then again I would never have guessed John Favreau, Bryan Singer or Christopher Nolan could produce such great comic adaptations so if Whedon gets the gig I'll be playing the wait and see approach. Was honestly hoping Edgar Wright would wind up in the directors chair on this (well, he still might) but Whedon could be a good pick.

TWO WORDS: ALIEN RESSURECTION.

It sucked the sweat off my balls and even though he blamed it on Fox (typically) you still cant deny that God awful dialogue and story HE wrote. Because of A:R there is NOTHING this man can do to redeem himself. He DESTROYED the Alien franchise long before AvP.

Stunning news, never thought in a million years they would hire Whedon for such a big event movie. Still he does have strong ties with Marvel so I guess they trust him.

I also wouldn't worry about it falling through like Wonder Woman as this film has the success of Iron Man to back it up.

I'd like to take the credit but if I didn't say it someone else would have! Fillion should be in everything.........

Sure, Whedon wouldn't be my first choice but then neither would the director of Elf for Iron Man. That turned out pretty damn good. And I like Alien Resurrection- it's just such a bizarre concept that Whedon would write a film directed by Jeunet that is an American sci-fi sequel. Besides, it's ambitious and creative- albeit flawed. But any issues with AR are put aside on watching Serenity- which is, frankly, pisses on Star Trek with such force it blows a hole through JJ Abram.
