Kick-Ass is such an awesome film! - I hope that if they make a sequel, it will be as thrilling and fresh as the first... Question is - what will the storyline be and do you think it is the right thing to do to have a sequel?

If it makes enough money they'll definitley be a sequel.  The director has already said as much.  The girl who plays hitgirl says she wants to reprise the role so hopefully it won't take that long to get the second one made.  As for the story who knows? No doubt red mist will be the main baddie now.

They should only do it if Vaughn's up for it. And it better be quick, before Chloe Moretz "grows".

It'll probably depend on its success in the US which, at the moment, could go either way.

Btw is there a trend of releasing less "big" films in Europe before the US? Parnassus and Fantastic Mr Fox did that (and Parnassus recouped his money back).

As much as i did enjoy it, I dont think they should do a sequel. Admittedly they left it open to do so BUT i think it wont have the same effect.

The reason i think Kick-Ass is getting such critical success is because its new and fresh. By the time the script for a sequel has been penned, cast and shot i'd guess the market will have been flooded with movies trying to follow suit.

Matt Vaughn would yet again need to look outside the commercial box. No doubt some big company would pay big $$ to have Kick-Ass now. But in accepting funding from a studio it would mean he'd loose the control he had and it would get toned down and slipstreamed into a mainstream movie. So he would need to either raise funding again or hope that Kick-Ass raises enough to supply a sequel.

And i think the only reason Kick-Ass got a release here before the US was because Both the Director and Co-Writer are British.

Personally i would prefer to see a Prequel, as much as i enjoyed ''McLovin'' and his Red Mist. I'd rather take a look back, perhaps at the Macready's. Big Daddy and Hit Girl obviously have some interesting history that i think should be explored!

Now the crapfest that is the Harry Potter franchise is finally drawing to a close you mean to tell me I'm gonna have Avatar and Kick-Ass franchises to roll my eyes at over the next few years?

*tears* I hate money.

Kick-Ass 2 would no doubt be BETTER as the origin story/slow stuff that inevitably comes in a superhero type movie is over with.  Spidey, X-Men and Batman all had superior sequels.  Same can probably be said of Superman too.

It'll probably deal with the wannabe super villains that will emerge, obviously with Red....Rage? Red Pist? whatever he calls himself as the first.  Or it'll be an hour and a half of Chloe Moretz stabbing people in the face.  I'm fine with either really

I saw it last night and thought is was excellent, truly excellent.

However I looked at it as a superhero satire and although it's based on a continuing comic series I think turning it into a film franchise kind of misses the point - the film sends up a lot of other superhero films and their conventions so by becoming a "chapter 1" I really think it would lose focus.

In a way I'd love to see what happens to Kick Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist and although it's wide open for a sequel I think it's much more effective as being a solo effort. Although I'm sure Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn would be involved with writing and directing again so hopefully they'd manage to keep the bite without running the risk of it actually falling into franchise conventions.

So all in all while it could be interesting I'd much rather not see a Kick Ass 2 - much rather see Vaugn, Goldman and maybe some of the same cast tackle something else. A reunion film rather than a sequel to existing work - a Casino to Goodfellas kind of deal (although a bit more focused than that particular example).

Just saw it, it truly is a fantastic movie and i can't wait for the sequal!

Some ideas:
  • Katie bdcomes a superhero
  • Red Mist kidnaps Kick Ass and forces Hit Girl to be his hired assassion in exchange for his life
  • Red Mist slowly goes crazier and crazier throughout the film (or/and comic)

Not if they follow the comics version of these characters.

Well a sequel to the film would have to differ from the comic now, seeing as in the comic [SPOILERS] Kick-Ass kills Red Mist and so a new villain is introduced at the end that we know nothing about [END SPOILERS]. I think by using Mintz-Plasse's character again the film may be a bit of a re-tread.

I loved Kick-Ass but think it should be left as a one off.

I don't think you understood, that was Red Mist in the comic.

I'd love to see another Kick Ass film.  A prequel where we see more of how Big Daddy became so deranged and how he dragged his baby girl into his fantasy world would be great.  Impossible though as Chloe Moretz already looks way older and having anyone else play Mindy would ruin it.  A film about how Hit Girl adjusting to normal life and being a superhero with morals would be good.  Plenty of creative, non-lethal action and comedy.  "Hit girl, don't shoot him in the cock!".

In interviews there have been a lot of comments about Hit Girl getting a purple Ducatti in a follow-up.  Most have clearly said that she'd get a car IF a sequel was made but I've seen a couple that said she IS getting a Ducatti.  I also saw one interview with Chloe Moretz where, when asked if there would be a sequel, she said she couldn't say anything.  Not 'I don't know', more 'I know but won't tell'.  I can't remember where I heard this, some random Youtube interview.

Maybe an alternation between the two, a la "The Godfather II"?

And Hit Girl on a motorcycle would be awesome! I hope it happens
