Why didn't you just get both? Or pick up an N64 on the cheap when the next generation came in?

Sadly I was much younger then and didn't really have the money!

Wasn't everyone much younger then?

It's up for pre-order on Amazon.co.uk for £219.99.

As keen as I am to get one, given that it's just as much as 360 or PS3 is these days, I think I'm gonna hold out until it's in the more affordable price range. Or when the wife gets me it for xmas .

I'm just keen to play the resi game that's in the pipeline (not the Mercenaries one) as it's supposed to be a return to the more survival horror rather than action-y side of things.

I think this price is ridiculous. I thought it would be under 200 sheets. It doesn't even come with a game or anything

Got to admit, the price and the fact it's region locked are massive bug bears with me, up to the point that it's gone from a launch day purchase to a wait and see. Unless the price becomes more reasonable after a drop, I don't think I'll be investing anymore.

£40 RRP for a game and £230 the average price for the console is just ridiculous.

Engadget's 3DS preview:

http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/19/nintendo-3ds-in-depth-preview-slight-return-video/

They don't seem impressed at all with the 3D aspect of it.

quote:

As for the screen, in 2D mode the colors stand out and it's pretty crisp, but even a slight nudge on the 3D depth slider makes for a whole different experience. The viewing angle, which we actually commend during its two-dimensional presentation, drops to single-degree acceptability when the parallax display is put to use -- moving even just a little would cause the screen the flicker and the 3D effect to be lost or too muddled to enjoy. Expect to keep your arms locked in place while playing, and we'd advise against anyone trying to look over your shoulder to follow along. What's more, there's no instruction or guidance on how to adjust the depth slider for your eyes, and each game requires a seemingly different setting, so you end up fiddling with it a lot -- to what can be quite painful results. Our own Nilay Patel has had a headache since this morning's playing session, as has columnist-at-large Michael Gartenberg. We'd suggest Nintendo require each game to pop up a calibration screen with some saved settings that disable the slider -- otherwise we can see a lot of players just disabling 3D entirely.

We'll see I guess, I can understand their calibration comments, but I can't help but feel they were expecting the same results as a 40" 3DTV plasma or LCD screen.

At that price, I think I'll definitely be waiting until the regular DS is dead before I even consider buying a 3DS.  To be honest I wouldn't pay that much for something like a 360/PS3, let alone a handheld.

I think this will be Sony's problem with the PSP2 as well. From the rumoured specs I can't see it being less than £299.99 at launch.

My mate went to a 3DS pre-launch event in Manchester yesterday. Not spoken to him yet but I did ask him on the old Facebook what it was like and this was his response:

" Meh, it's alright. 3D isn't as great as they are making out. A lot of them are a bit blurred as well. Best thing was Street Fighter. That looked boss!"

Iwata has announced a Mario game for 3DS, developed by the Mario Galaxy team.

I worry about how the controls will be.

SF aside I'd appreciate a new hand held as I currently get the train to work ... but the few games I have on the DS do me for now. This is looking nice, but I think I'll pick up the 3DSi Light ... that you know is coming.

On Thursday in Westfield shopping centre they had an event for 3DS. I managed to play about 5 of the games as well as the Augmented reality game that comes built in with it.

The 3D element was much better than I expected although on one or 2 of the games my eyes hurt a bit after a while. The best effect was on Pilotwings, very impressive. Also the AR game was almost breathtaking.

Im very tempted to treat myself. Think there is a Mario Kart game coming in a few months too

I'm gonna give it a little while. Mainly because I'm unemployed, But there's nothing out I want on release and the only thing that tickles my fancy is the new Resi game (not mercenaries).

Anyone get one of these?

I found this quite amusing:

Mangalindan also slammed the 3DS for using cartridges, saying that's "something we haven't seen since the last Game Boy, pretty much."

To add insult to injury, it also features a stylus, something we haven't seen since the Palm devices of the early 2000s.

Got mine today.  I would post a longer review but this forum just timed me out and I lost the post, so bollocks to that

Basically, I like it.  I wish it had an internet channel and I wish the 3D camera had a higher resolution, but in games and menus the 3D was rather nice, even at it's lowest setting

More later, maybe.

Cancelled my pre order ... and I'm glad I did. I may pick one up in the future but I don't need to be in on the ground floor here.

Nothing out excites me too much ... well not at £30 a pop either. SF4 I didn't like the stick the D-Pad was ok ... the 3D slant view a novelty. You'd never play properly like that.

I'll wait for the Nintendo 3DS ... Lite ... I ... XL ... or whatever.

I had a go on one of these today in Tesco, some racing game, i don't like it. I like the idea of it, but i couldn't focus properly on the screen, even when i relaxed my eyes.

Also, the chap in the shop says Doctors advise not to play it for longer than 30mins at a time! What rubbish!

I Was interested to see in the news the other day that they are going to be slashing the price by around a third clicky. Not surprising I guess, what with the new PSP pricing tactics. I was a bit suspicious when I started seeing all the the 3DS games slashed in price everywhere...

I think it's just a case of it being too expensive in comparison to a home console. As much as I want a 3DS, there's no way I'd have paid launch price. Especially when you could get a PS3 or 360 for around the same price.

Tesco's are now selling these new for £115! : Clicky!

That's bonkers considering what they were selling for a few months ago.

I've not seen anything. The price drop made this pop up on my radar again ... yet the biggest games to be released for this seem to be N64 remakes. Which I'm sure will be great ... but I played those to death at the time. I only had an N64 at that point and just battered those games.

Way too soon for me to relive them. In fact scrap that I HAVE relived them countless times. All I have to do is boot up my N64 ... or GC for Zelda and I played Mario 64 on the DS ... quite liked the Star Fox game on the DS too ... so yeah ...
