David Gordon Green's adaptation of A Confederacy of Dunces, starring Will Ferrell and a bunch of other cool people. Not usually a massive Ferrell fan but he could potentially be an absolute smash in the lead here, and I like Gordon Green's style.

Incidentally, to anyone who's aware of this project, do you know if the script is available to read anywhere on the internet? My cursory searches suggest it isn't but you never know...

A prequel to Reign of Fire: the worlds armies going up against thousands of dragons! And losing! (but with a little moment of "One day we'll fight back..." hopefulness at the end)

Dogfights in the sky between high tech fighter jets... and DRAGONS! Machine gun fire vs real fire!

Tanks! Machine Guns! Artillery bombardments on egg nests! Commandos with massive guns going into underground caves to destroy dragon eggs!

EPIC! They could call it...

Dawn of Fire!

Spielberg's Lincoln biopic starring Liam Neeson. Possibly the best casting decision never followed through on.
The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, and Gilliam's Watchmen. He's perfectly suited to Alan Moore's material, yet lesser hacks get to film it.

I would like to have seen or see one of Charles De Lint's novels get made into a movie... i think that would make for a fascinatingly imaginative and creative environment!

They already made that movie and it is universally seen as one of the worst crimes against cinema:

Ghostbusters 3 aka ghostbusters in hell which had Ben Stiller in it.
Schwarzenegger and Verhoeven's Crusade The script (by Walon Green, who wrote The Wild Bunch) is considered one of the most brutally violent things ever put to paper.

I think it's been all but abandoned.

The original holdups for the Fincher/Freeman collaboration were due to budget and that apparently Fincher wanted to develop something new in special effects to achieve the other world effect, something unique.

I think given the advances in photoreal environments (I'm thinking Avatar here) that Rama would be achieveable unless Fincher had some really bizarre concepts for it. Being a fan of the first two books (but not so much the last two) I'd like to see an adaptation of Rama II - that story is more suited for screen treatment, they could still call the film Rendevous with Rama but use the storyline and characters from II with a blurb at the beginning explaining that this is the second ship that had entered orbit.

Regarding Gilliam's version of "Watchmen", didn't he want to cast Arnold Schwarzenegger as Dr. Manhattan and Mickey Rourke as Rorschach?  Rourke?  Yes, in 1988 I could see that, but Arnie?  Er... no.

I fear that Gilliam's version might have been awful.

Alternatively, Greengrass' version of "Watchmen", which would have been made with practically the same script as Zach Snyder's version, was a very interesting prospect.  Greengrass' (rumoured) casting included Ron Perlman as the Comedian, Paddy Considine as Rorschach, Joaquin Phoenix as Nite Owl, Hilary Swank as Silk Spectre and Jude Law as Ozymandias.

I think that Greengrass' version might have been a little masterpiece.  Sadly we will never know.

Howver, for all it's faults, I did like Zach Snyder's "Watchmen".

Surely someone else has thought of it.

Star Wars I, II, and III written and directed by whoever is the opposite of Mr. Lucas.
Me. I could have done it.

Apart from other factors, I think that the main problem with the new Star Wars trilogy in comparison to the first trilogy is that the new 3 do not take place in space as much as the originals. Locations surround different planets and the look and feel, though similar in many ways, feels different.

I didn't mind the new trilogy. Maybe it is because they came out when I was a child/young teenager!

Paul Verhoevens Return Of The Jedi.

Superman 4:The Quest For Peace with the budget of 40 million(before those hacks Golan and Globus effectively stabbed Chris Reeve and the director in the back by slashing the budget down to 17 million).

Scorsese was once rumored to be directing a film about Walter Winchell the famous American gossip collumnist .

When i was reading Stephen Bachs excellent Final Cut on the Making of Heavens gate a film based on Truman Capotes Handcarved coffins was muted as a film

Peter Sellers was working on Romance of The Pink Panther when he passed away

I imagine True Lies 2 would have been epic.

Also, Alien 3 with Cameron at the helm, Bishop & co surviving and lots more Aliens.

Agreed. It would have been really awesome with Hicks surviving rather than him dying so suddenly at the prologue.

Shame - could have been a really good film. Liam Neeson can be a great actor and he's worked well with Spielberg before so it is sad this isn't being made

 What a loss!

Keep hoping kat, there is still a tiny figment of life in that project

hope springs eternal Dev. what a great book. what a great movie it would make. If i had a billion dollars I would start with The Colour of Magic. What a world to put on screen! Then with the other 500 million it would have to be Stephen King's The Dark Tower septuplet (is that even remotely sense-making?). His magnum opus and a must read for every form of life on the planet!
