If the multiplayer is anything like the second then i'm not looking forward to it much. The single player campaign will no doubt be immense, but the multiplayer has really gone downhill.

Exactly this. I've been playing the beta and like Gears 2 it feels too casual.

That's pretty cool.

I should have at least 100 hours of Gears-ness saved up. Hell, on Horde alone.

How's everyone enjoying the beta anyway. Fucking digger launcher is a pain in the hole.

Gears 2 Multiplayer - 4 day(s), 05:53:53

Wow, I actually played it a lot more than I thought for a versus mode I despised. The majority of this must have been horde. In the early days I was raising my rank by just playing through Horde Mode. This brings me to 100 already without even taking the first game into consideration

Doubt i'll be trying it though, so if I end up getting a pass i'll gladly pass it on.

Liking it so far, I'm a bit rubbish but like Gears 2 I'm a machine with the old chainsaw. 77 Lancer kills, 70 with the chainsaw.

Also if anybody's interested I've got a spare Beta code.

Let me know where I should expect it. As long as the effort involved means just PMing you a code i'm up for it

Sorry Borstal I didn't read through the thread and didn't see your post, I just PM'd Kata the code. I should get a buddy code that I'll give to you if you don't have one by next week.

Or you could pre-order from the GAME website and get a code tomorrow.

I never really played MP on any of the gears games before but the beta is seriously good stuff. The Gnasher needs to be balanced out as it is too good as a ranged weapon and lethal up close.

Currently I am playing the King of the Hill and the games are crazy! Executions, downs, and just general mayhem - even with 5 players a side it is bonkers at times.

Great experience and really highly polished.

Where/When should I expect this code? Will it come into my hotmail account or xbox inbox? Do I need to sign up? (might be a bit too much effort)

I had an extra code sent to me yesterday - this is the last week of the beta so you will need to get cracking!

Who wants it?!

I got a code this week from a mate. Not had the chance to play much. Levelled up to around level 5.

- At first I was hating the Retro Lancer ... well actually I've still not used it much but others seem to like it.
- Sawn off shot gun was ripping into me too in the first match. But the reload times are terrible and it's close range only.
- Didn't use the digger all that much, though it will be fun to use in horde and the story mode.
- In short I stuck to using the old shot gun and hammer burst, sometimes mixing it up with the lancer and sawn off but mostly the first combination.

Fingers crossed the multiplayer will be a much more polished experience from the off compared to the constantly stumbling and tweaking of GoW2. They've had much more time to focus on it now and along with this beta I hope they manage to give it all the fine tuning they need.

I've pre-ordered already but it will be the last game I pick up this year .... this ... Portal 2 and Batman Arkham City ... and that's it. I've got way too much to play.

This was great while it lasted, essentially I felt it was Gears 2 but with all the kinks ironed out and a nice selection of new gameplay additions. Despite all the problems with it I loved Gears 2 to death and it's by far the game I've racked up the most time online with, so I've got high hopes for the final product - they have very little to fix IMO. Sawn-off being a starting weapon is the obvious problem, it gives rise to too many morons thinking they're Rambo and charging the enemy only to get mowed down by rifle fire. Again and again.

Otherwise, the digger launcher and one-shot seem to be the power weapons to aim for now, especially the digger, in the hands of a good player it can REALLY cause problems for a careless team. It'll be interesting to see how the other gametypes will be, Wingman especially.

Anybody catch the new Horde mode video? Bosses every 10 waves, challenge waves, and currency to buy things like turrets and barriers in game.

I can see Horde taking up most of my non campaign Gears 3 time.

I havent seen the video but have read all about it! Its like they have thrown in some tower defense gameplay! Going to be awesome - seriously excited for it.

Campaign is looking excellent, MP is actually very very good (and addictive) and the Horde 2.0 mode is looking spectacular.

Bring it on

I'm really not fussed. The campaigns were good enough in the previous two but the MP has never grabbed me.

I'll pick it up at some point for the campaign but there's better games coming that I'd rather get.

It's almost sad how wrong you all are.

Campaign is the big draw for me, but I've enjoyed the multiplayer on Gears so much (even if it has been mostly private matches with mates) that this is a day one purchase for me.
