I would argue that 3D is putting people OFF going to the cinema given that it costs more and annoys people, particularly there are no regular 2d showings of certain films.I know quite a few people who are waiting for Dredd to be released on disc as they could not find a non 3d showing anywhere nearby.

Two movies this year hit the billion mark without the aid of 3D.

One of those is TDKR but whats the other one? Box office Mojo lists 2 films as making a billion plus - TDKR and The Avengers and that was in 3D (albeit post converted)

Skyfall isn't far off but won't get to a Billion before the year's out

I'm not sure if the International gross gets updated once a week, instead of once a day like the US figures, so it could possibly make $1 billion by Monday, even if it's not updated until then.

The Hunger Games? Or was that in 3D too? I can't even remember.

Both were in IMAX though, which is even more expensive than 3d. Not taking away anything from the achievement at all however.

I seem to recall Cameron, roundabout the time that AVATAR came out, was insisting that all TV and movies would be in 3D within five years...

Yeah, keep pushing that deadline back, mate...

What a sad, strange little man, he'll get no pity from me. Seriously, it really is pathetic for this man to believe so thoroughly in something that has proven so far to be so utterly worthless and detrimental to the medium. The sooner everyone gets over the perplexing little fad of 3D the sooner we can move on with worthwhile developments in film making. It's a stagnant gimmick and it's really starting to stink up the place.

Big internet handshake for that one, mate.

Didn't PLANES have only 18% of it's UK audience choosing to see it in 3D?

cameron can have a say because he helped bring this 3d boom about because he showed care with its use.

the real 3d gimmick is retro fitting.

cameron on 3d on 'click'-

He may have showed care with it's use, but it still didn't work.
Even in Avatar it was ultimately just a gimmick that actively degraded the experience and then, for me at least, became pointless enough that I didn't even notice it was there by the end.

Although this does show that he is more against bad 3D rather than 3D overall. It is good he is man enough to admit that there is such a thing (at this moment about 2% if the statistics from the University of Made Up Off the Cuff are true)

I would normally opt against seeing it in 3D - even with Mark's recommendation - but I have a free IMAX ticket to use up, and I'd imagine all IMAX screenings are in 3d... so I guess I'm seeing it in 3D.

The one time 3D is justified and I can't see it in that format because of my shit eyesight.

That's what happens when you masturbate too much, kids.

Doesn't mean he's changed his mind about 3D though. For the most part it will always be shit.

I'll give it a shot in 3D, but it'll be 2D first & IMAX second before I get round to that stage.
