The immensely underrated Timothy Olyphant is the Sheriff of a small town in Iowa, where some of the locals have begun acting a little loco, and then downright homicidal. Along with a couple of survivors, they must try to get out of their once sleepy town alive.

the muted intensity of the early stages works very well, but that can't help The Crazies from feels extremely choppy.

We meet the characters before they're given any time to endear themselves, so we must get to know them amidst the violent opening and subsequent carnage. This is something that's never easy for an actor to do, but Olyphant makes his ponderous sleepy town Sheriff work anyway.

Those that find themselves really drawn in by the eerily effective opening may be disappointed by the more action orientated core, and you might not always buy these characters for the decisions they make. But The Crazies manages to be entertaining and jolty, doing a decent job of blending genres, without finding that cohesion overall.

Captain Rent Boy above I thought was spot on. Really rather good, unshowy horror/survival/town gone mad/government controlling it. May have preferred a bit more mystery near the beginning.

While this is not a bad film by any stretch, gorehounds will be disappointed there werent more intestines draped asunder (there arent any!) , frighthounds will be short changed by the lack of jumpy shocks (although, particularly around the third way through point there are a few) and scientifically there is no development to speak of regarding the nature of the pathogen.
Where this film does perhaps deviate from standard zombie-film canon and cliche is the action of the US military in dealing with things. The lack of answers. The undercurrent that sticks after watching this is the real horror that, should the film's aircraft crash happen in real life, the way the military behave is pretty damn near what would happen in real life. Despite a spectacular (although highly predictable) ending , the latter stages deviate from the jumpy nature of the start with a more set-piece after set-piece style of narrative.
Overall not bad but disappointing in areas you hoped for better and surprisingly satsifying in areas you werent expecting satisfaction.

What a great movie. I loved how the people slowly went crazy and how they did it. The missus crushed my hands as she jumped so many times.....HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 4 1/2 OUT OF 5

to shell out your hard earned cash on this dross....
the most totally predictable pile of guff I've seen so far this year.
Small town America? Check. Government conspiracy? Check. Mutated virus strain which turns the local populace into crazed murdering zombies? (yawn). Alright - I'll admit - I got sucked in by the trailer which was pretty darn good - but as for the film itself?
jesus - I was sleeping through some of this....!!!!
Zombieland without the laughs......
If it's thrills your after - stick to Zack Synder's Dawn of the Dead remake or that brilliant spanish low budget gem REC - both films ten times better than this cinematic dirge.......two stars.....

Crazies was fine, a decent predictable horror B movie with gore and jumps galore.

No masterpiece but good fun. The car wash scene is so funny.

Pretty good. Unafraid to be suitably bleak and vicious. A solid cast, a few genuine surprises and shocks along the way. What's not to like? It's a solid horror and i certainly recommend this over half the shite that's being pushed out of Hollywood's ass these days eg Jennifer's body, Halloween 2, Zombieland

 Alot of remakes of horrors just aren't as good as the originals. Halloween and Friday the 13th are examples that string to mind. The Crazies is a nice little horror which doesn't go to over the top and has a great atomsphere to it. Some very good jumpy bits especially when the wife is tied up in the sports stadium with the Crazy man coming to get her! All the acting was good in it and Tim Olyphant is as solid as ever and I have to say the best I've seen him in a film (Don't mention The Hitman!!)
So to conclude go see it its a scream if only to see a different take on the whole zombie thing!

sometimes, very rarly, a film you dont expect to deliver fuck all comes along and makes your day. this is one of 'em. expecting a tedious (15 rated) gorefest, i was delighted to be actually be viewing a solid human drama in the veign of "THE ROAD" except for the infected instead of cannibals, and it not being nearly as fine ! but i digress. this sits at No. 5 so far this year and, if it dont stay in my top 10, it means we have SIX GREAT FILMS to come. 7+ out of 10

 OK so there were no crazy horses in the film, but I really enjoyed this. This is a real sleeper hit. All the actors were good in the film, including the deputy. some good tense moments. especially the car wash scene, and the helicopter. As per one of the comments above, this has to be one of the laziest reviews ever. its not a case of just because one person didnt enjoy the movie that others wont. Alot of people take these reviews too seriously and avoid little movies like this in the cinema, causing shit like Twilight, and other tween movies to stay in the cinema charts. myself and my wife enjoyed this movie, and another great movie The Mist, also overlooked in the cinema for some other tween crap. would have given this one more star if it didn't switch at the end & end up looking like a resident evil movie.

 The Crazies is indeed chilling, thrilling and scary from the start to the very end. Timothy Olyphant leads as he tries to escape from his town along with his wife and a few friends after a toxic spill in the water is making people go... well crazy! I highly recommend this movie to anyone who loves horror films.

not scary, the crazies are neither zombies or baddies just boring and is it me they dont really seem to be in the film much with 'the government' being the villian proper. seems to be stuck in the middle of 28 days later sombre and zombieland funny and being a lot lot owrse than either. Tim O is awesome as always though and the only possible reason to watch this film, he turns a 1 star into a 2 star

 Solid and creepy start (the guy burning his house down), but after that just got a tad predictable and not very exciting or scary (apart from one bit I shit myself at, where the pregnant wife is on her own at the garage, and there's a crazy just at the very left of the shot. I didn't see him at first, but when I did it was an 'oh, jaysus' moment).

5/10 Good, not great.

Deserves a fourth star. Olyphant is great in anything (bar Hitman) this is very competently made horror/thriller.

Fairly good horror, does nothing that hasn't been done before but it's an entertaining, fairly tense movie.
It's not too slow paced and the practical effects of 'the crazies' are really good and convincing.
Must check out the original and see if it's better.
