Well done Empire, you've handed a solid gold, five star Ealing classic the same amount of stars as Tranformers and Indy 4. Nice. This film should be revered along with the likes of The Ladykillers and as always is consistently overlooked. What gives?

This is one of my favourite films and quite rightly deserves those stars! Having a Hebridean father I always smile when I watch this classic Ealing as the traits in the island folk are spot on!... (I can even sing the Gaelic drinking song!)

No. Sarcastic at first, then honest. You not a fan of Whiskey Galore then?

Not seen it.

It just sounded like you were saying "Empire gave Film A this many stars, but yet didn't give Film B the same amount. Internets Outrage!!!!!!!!!!!!!" that so many review threads turn into.

Its different when it comes to a well established classic. If they awarded The Godfather 4 stars people would have the same reaction. My point is giving WG 4 stars is downright ignorant reviewing considering the quality and legacy of the film.

I believe I explained that up thread but to clarify again, if a film which has been around for decades and is widely regarded as a classic of the genre and is still finding an audience and the subject of debate (no mean feat for a British film shot in the 50's) then 5 stars should, frankly be an automatic and well deserved rating. Its the reverence in timeless cinema which the internet has kind of undermined recently.

Lets be clear, Scott Pilgrim gets 5 stars, Whiskey Galore gets 4. How the f**k does that make any sense?

But surely it's definition as a classic by you and many others has no bearing on the opinion of this particular reviewer. Which is the point debated countless times in, for example, the Transformers 3 review thread.

It's 'legacy' has no business in one persons personal review of the film. Apocalypse Now is still discussed and considered a classic. Doesn't mean I like it. I accept it's importance, but don't personally find it as good as others do.
