This is such an awesome film. How many things did they get right?! I have only seen the original once, and then there were two sequels without Van Damme (FUCKING SHIT) and then UniSol The Return which i turned off for being bollocks. This film is brilliant, i loved it all.

I love this film! I knew it would be good because from the get go (in regards to screenings) the word was very positive. I read on Aint It Cool a week or so ago that part 4 is allready on the way with the same creative talent on board including Dolph and Van Dame. Does anybody know if (I may get his name wrong here) Mike Pyle will be back? He played the good guy soldier who we see at the very end?? He was great in it too. It's meant to be in 3D aswell.

I suspect Pyle was a back up plan should JCVD and Lundgren not want to come back, but the success of the movie has likely swayed them into coming back for seconds. I just hope they keep the same feel to the next one.

I liked this film a lot.I didnt think i would but i did.Does anyone think now however that weve had enough Van Damme vs Lundgren and would like to see the next one have them team up fighting an army of Andrei Arolovskis?

I FINALLY got round to watching this film today - WOW. Impressive. The action is truly top-notch; Andrei Arlovski is a killing machine for sure (actually, I hope Sly pays attention and keeps him in mind for the roll call for a possible EXPENDABLES sequel) . I like the industrial-setting and look of the film, the Jean-Claude vs. Dolph fight was brief but brilliantly executed - running & smashing through walls, just fucking crazy man, like a cartoon. Luc was in full-on ass-kicking mode in his stalk n' slash sequence, I liked the way he went from using his M16 and Ingram Mac to just a knife to fuck the bad guys up. Minimal use of a rather sinister Carpenter-esque score is also effective. Mike Pyle as Burke was also kinda cool in his own infiltration / stealth mission.

"Do you often contemplate the complexity of Life?" - Brilliant Blade Runner reference courtesy of Andrew Scott!

Now that I think of it, the score is also reminiscent of Mark Isham's THE HITCHER. Great Film, man. I'm gonna watch it with the commentary now.

I dunno  -can you ever have enough crazy Dolph?

To be honest, I would guess that a team up must be on the cards, which is ok, but only if Dolph turns bad near the end again. Can't have them in the film and not fight again.

I'm using this the next time we discuss The Thin Red Line and The New World.

And now I have to see Universal Soldier 3.

I'd go for the uniform from the first film. Mind you, what we saw the UNI-SOLS wear here were just desert combats. The look they had in UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: THE RETURN wasn't much more than a black jump-suit and science-class safety glasses! REGENERATION uniform was nice - urban camo-wear to match the mood of the film.

I still think I would put this over The Expenables when it comes to 80s style action movies out this year.

Masterpiece.
FAR better than The Expendables, Avatar or any of the other blockbusters we're getting these days.
An action movie that is gritty, for men and doesn't include pointless love interests for 'emotional investment'.

Hope the next one doesn't disappoint.

I hope that they keep the tone of the previous film. The cold aesthetic really suited the series. Having Michael Jai White on board is an added bonus. Sort of wished that they weren't going down the 3D route, but hopefully Hyams manages to make the film without the need for OTT CGI. Keep it mean, and keep it gritty.

This movie was clearly the best action movie of 2010.

It was great to see the legendary Peter Hyams as camera operator. Outland is simply one of the most underrated sci fi movies ever. Duncan Jones stole a hell of a lot of ideas from that for Moon.

According to the IMDB (admittedly not always the most reliable of sources), Van Damme has a bunch of films in the can that are in post-production' - any REAL news on the next UNIVERSAL SOLDIER...?

Its taking AGES cause it's been shot in 3D despite being DTV. It's been finished for a while now, shooting that is. Andre is back with a large role, and by all acounts it's meant to be Atkins film. JCVD and Dolph appear but no where near the level of the previous flick. There's also meant to be a major female kicks ass character. Other than that nadda!

Oh the other day it was announced the rights have been sold. So I'd expect this to be the last 'cause it's now being developed as a - your fave thing Snake - a reboot in the form of a TV show. By the 'pros' who brought us Stargate SG1.

It is VERY different from the previous ones. Looks almost like a post nuclear war movie. Van Damm is a Kurtz type figure.

Michael Jai White may, or may not be in it. Waiting to hear.
