Well the time has come for me and Empire to sadly part company, have loved the magazine since it was first released, but dont think they realise that there is a credit crunch on and the latest issue of £4.20 finally pushed me over the edge, always begrudged paying over £3.00 for it but always said to myself that it was my monthly treat, well sorry but it certainly isnt worth over £4.00 to me and i think they are taking the piss, drop the price and i'll be back, keep it over £4.00 and you can stick it up your arses. bye bye

I don't think you realise there's such a thing as inflation. Sorry but increasing prices are just a fact of life otherwise the mag would still be £1.50 like it was when it started. besides like others had said you coukld always subscribe

 Was it really £4.20??  I've been subscribing for 18 months or so so I havent really noticed but I do agree, £4.20 is rather a lot for a monthly magazine that doesn't come with a gift of any sort (for example, and know games mags can be 5 or 6 quid but they do come with demo discs and what-not).  I'm fully aware of the phenomenon of inflation but for me there is something about the £4 barrier makes a magazine seem that much more expensive.

Like other have said, subscribing would be the best bet would be to subscribe whenever they have a cheap offer on.

 Actually I'm a bit confused. At lunch today I was wandering around the shops. In Wh Smith and Morrison's the price was £4.10 but in HMV it was £3.99 (that was the cpver price as well as the one on the sticker they insist on putting on their mags). Can anyone from Empire explain that?

said to myself i wasnt going to reply after posting this thread, but here i am, yes there is such a thing as inflation, I have been buying Empire for what seems like a lifetime and while i do still love the magazine i still believe it is overpriced, thought the same when it was £3.99 and think even more so when my latest issue cost me £4.20.

Oh so why moan and not just subscribe i hear you all harp, unfortunatly that isnt an option for some of us, after being blacklisted after losing my job it means i have a limited account which doesnt permit me to subscribe and i feel that my £4.20 is better kept for the family than on a monthly treat for myself.

The last time i subscribed i did it through another method, clubcard points to save me a little money.

As i started saying i do not think it is worth the £4.20 anymore, for starters the magazine has three times more advertising as it used to surely any inflation should go on a majority of the advertising to keep costs down for its own customer base (would love to know the advertising costs)

1. 8 full pages page for hmv
2. 5 full pages for play.com
3. 1 full for amazon
4. 1 full for head & shoulders
5. 1 full for samsung
6. 1 full for v05
7. 2 full for jaguar
8. 1 full for jack daniel's
9. 1 full for volvo
10. 1 full for ford
11. 1 full for brylcream

they are just a few there are others for true rum, royal air force,dell, and not to mention the ad pages in the back that have always been there.

these are just my views and in no way does it mean that i dislike reading empire i just cannot justify the price anymore, especially when i can read most of the magazine online now for free.

The same reason people moan when a remake is made because its a forum and people always post their shit on a forum, to air their views on particular subjects, Joey with over 1668 posts on this site i am sure you could look back and find a pointless whine of your very own Im saying goodbye to purchasing the magazine, not to empire website and if you really thought the thread was lame why post on it? very true professor, and as MartinBlank7 stated earlier 50p more than a pint, which is when i originally posted this thread after a few golden stellas, but i still think i will refrain from buying unless something in there really grabs me when its on the shelf or when i sort out my credit and can subscribe again

I'm just going to go to the library to read it from now on.
I sat with this month's/last month's copy in the library yesterday having a good flick through it. I've not read Empire in a while and I don't really like the new layout and colour scheme. DVD review section seemed a bit crap but maybe that's cause there's nothing out. The Wall Street article was good to read though.

Magazines are dear, no question, my wife goes nuts with me for buying so many, I've decided to cut bakc and just buy ones that I really, really need. Do you know how many magazines I really, really need a month? None.

 I'm with ya blood! I had a hissy fit and didn't buy January's issue and vowed to stay off it for ever! HA THAT'LL SHOW EM!!! So I went to rehab and got clean and even got a shiny blue coin to show how well I'd done. Then my girlfiend showed up with it and said she will but it for me as a gift every month which she has. She said "If it brings you so much joy, what is a pound a week in the grand scheme of things?"..... clever girl.

I agree with you there. I was reading the mag yesterday and thought it looks bloody awful now.
