Weird, incomprehensible, boring and ever-so-slightly pompous are some more. I caught Valhalla Rising at the London Film Festival last winter, and despite being a huge Mads Mikkelsen fan, a long-time lover of Danish film and a serious Viking aficionado, I was massively disappointed in it. Many people walked out of the screening. I wasn't expecting or desiring a huge action film, so it wasn't that - it was just a disjointed, slow-moving, incoherent mess which, I'm sorry to say, had more of a whiff of a vanity project about it. It pains me to say that, believe me - I doubt there was anybody more excited about seeing it than me! :(
