Fantastic from Italy...Germany were barely in the game. Two such different teams from their last games

Very disappointed with the Germans. Low picked the wrong side. He brought in Gomez, Podolski and Kroos who did utterly nothing and the baffling decision to put Ozil wide right from the start was plain stupid. No idea what Kroos' role was - he was plain garbage.

The Germans are a very good side but the Italians were immense. Their back four were incredible. Several last ditch tackles and De Rossi was brilliant all match. Praying for them to turn over Spain - who've been dull...

the problem for italy is that they cannot rely on their forwards to do the business next time out, who will find it much tougher against the meaner Spanish defence. Spain have a similar problem with their forwards, but have the advantage of goal threat from several midfielders, whereas Italy don't have that.

Of course, the most important thing is that this now shows that Ireland were massively unlucky to end up in the group they did, had they been in any of the others, they'd have been semi-finalists at least.

Straight fight between Pirlo and Iniesta now for player of the tournament, I'd say

Pirlo has been streets ahead of Iniesta. What the heck has Iniesta done this tournament? He didn't even wake up until extra time yesterday.

Iniesta's been one of Spain's best players! I'd still give it to Pirlo though

Both have 2 MOTM awards, with Iniesta winning one for the Spain-Italy group game, he's been excellent throughout, even though Pirlo's last 2 performances have been immaculate. But if he's anonymous in the final and Iniesta scores the winner, evne Pirlo's hair won't swing it for him

Italy were fucking brilliant and I did not think they could play like that against Germany - totally took the sting out of them. Pirlo was never this good was he?? Germany's highly rated defenders like Badstuber, Hummels and Lahm (who I've never understood why everyone bumlicks) looked average and in contrast Italy's back four looked rock solid. I'd take Terry and Cole any day of the week!

No either what happened to Schweinsteiger either.

Pirlo's been consistently magnificent for years now, he was the engine of the 2006 team along with Cannavaro and they were completely lost without him in South Africa. The fact that he's playing this well at 33 is insane, though.

I thought Germany were going to walk over Italy tonight, but the Italians were magnificent - their mentality has been fantastic throughout the whole tournament and they'd make worthy winners. Pirlo unquestionably player of the tournament.

also, Germany will totally stop choking* if they do two things:
a) stop building their squad around the choketastic Bayern Munich first team - Reus, Draxler etc are the future.
b) find someone/anyone to replace Holger Badstuber. His utter ineptitude was masked by his defensive teammates having good tournaments up until now, but he was exposed again tonight. Get rid.

(*maybe)

Who's giving out these MOTM awards? Anyone who thinks Iniesta was better than Pirlo in the first game is an idiot.

Pirlo has been MOTM in all five of Italy's games. He stood up for all of 90 minutes in the semi to bring his team to the final. WHERE WAS INIESTA FOR THOSE 90 MINUTES YESTERDAY?

Pirlo: 2 assists, 1 goal.
Iniesta: 1 assist.

The stats don't lie, baby!

Iniesta's the only Spain midfielder who actually tries to inject a bit of excitement with his excellent dribbling - if it wasn't for him they would be even more boring! Pirlo is still man of the tournament though - I've seen Pirlo play in Europe against English teams a few times and he's always looked good but he's never looked this good

Spanish forwards? What are those?

Hope Balo does the same to the Spaniards in the final.

That they can't score off the bench?

Great game last night, game of the tournament for me so far, Pirlo was absolutely immense yet again. I full expected the Germans to give Italy a pasting but seeing as they didn't I hope to god that Italy beat Spain in the final. At the very least I hope the final is worth watching.

With regards to the Iniesta/ Xavi debate I'd take Iniesta for the fact he can dribble so effectively.

Iniesta has been my favourite player for the past four years or so, so I'd agree, but Xavi on his day is still superb and can be the difference. He's had a poor tournament for him though.

I can't believe the amount of people out there, and I don't mean on here I mean out and about, who didn't seem to know about Pirlo's existence before this tournament!

I've always found him to be an incredible player for Italy since day one, he's a proper tournament player as well (England could do with just one or two of those!) and at the risk of this sounding awful, anyone who's ever played an EA Sports game with Italy knows just how good Pirlo is!!

Also, since both finalists are from the legendary Group C, I'm pretty sure this makes Ireland the fourth best team in Europe. You can't argue with that logic.

If i'm honest, I enjoyed watching this tournament more than the previous World Cup. There have been some exceptional performances by established players such as Ronnie, Balotelli, and of course Pirlo! I even for the first time (or in a long time) enjoyed an England game (England VS Sweden). And the fan's have been brilliant. Especially the Irish! I really hope we get more of this in the future, and UEFA should not meddle in the set up methinks.

Overall very enjoyable viewing - it'll be better if the Italian's do the job on Spain!

There hasn't been a classic match to remember the tournament unfortunately, and while Spain are classy, they're also dull with the best football coming from the Italians and the Germans.

Hopefully we'll get a good game tonight, otherwise it's been a merely decent tournament more notable for individual performances than teams or games.

Still better than the last World Cup by a considerable distance, though.
