Due to a year spent studying in Praha the Czechs are my tournament team these days.

On Friday I'll be in my Euro 2004 Poborsky top, supping a chilled Staropramen, hoping for an inspired Rosicky performance and Cech to play a blinder against those pesky Ruskis

Me and a mate talked ourselves into putting a few quid on Russia to win the tournament last night...yes we had been drinking!

Ah, the Russian dark horse bet. We'll we've all been there I guess. They have an easy group, some decent players and a good manager. But like Spain in the 80s and 90s you can't help but think they'll manage somehow to underachieve.

I don't know who my outside bet are. I have a feeling about Sweden. Or more accurately that Zlatan is overdue a win this year

I kind of hope this tournament does blow up big time. Maybe it'll finally see the end of him, then we can get started on Blatter again.

It would be a waste of time. Bureaucracies like UEFA and FIFA are essentially hydras. As soon as you remove a head two more grow in it's place. I'm pretty sure the only cure is fire.

Is this about the 'bookings for walking off the pitch' thing? Out of interest, what's the alternative? He's already said that refs are allowed to stop a game because of racist abuse, but there has to be some limits or else it'll be anarchy (especially since we're talking about a rule that's been in place for god knows how long). I know you guys have all decided you hate Michel Platini anyway but I really don't see what else he can do/say.

(and he's not even close to reaching Sepp's level of massive twatness.)

Holland get Monkey chants during on open training session.
UEFA say it wasn't racial, apparently fans were booing another team training on their pitch.

I really do hope if there is any of this during a game the team walk off en mass and that it isn't just England who get it.
UEFA would really have no where to go.

At the moment it seems it's the players and Dutch journalists who believe it was racist chanting and the Dutch FA / Uefa who don't. I can't see dealing with this issue being a problem at al during the tournament

Not losing tends to be of paramount importance in the first game anyway, so they can be cagey affairs whoever is playing. A win for Poland would be nice as it will add to the tournament atmosphere.

Having said the above, I think that Germany could tear Portugal a new one tomorrow night.

Yeah, if we were opening with a game from Group B I'd be a lot more excited. I'm really looking forward to those games, whereas group A really is a dogshit collection of games, not one that I think I'll watch in its entirety.

You'd love black players to be subjected to abuse just to prove Blatter a point?

UEFA admit some of the chanting was racist.

Come on DC at least wait until England have played before you start trolling.
It wasn't even inferred in his post that he actually wanted abuse to to prove a point.

Behave yourself will yer, you should be looking forward to ravaging Croatia with your "world class" forward and goalkeeper.
