Eagerly anticipated by us the "fans" but largely ignored by the regular movie going public who have never heard of it?

I can see it being more successful that watchmen because of the humour. You don't need to be a fan to see the scene where Nic Cage shoots his little girl in the chest to think; "I'm gonna go and see that!".

A few TV spots to get the humour across and it'll be a hit. The main thing is to make sure that they don't promote it as a typical superhero movie.

Absolutely agree. Joe Public are going to disappointed if they are expecting a Marvel 'type' film.

I really, really can't wait to see this film, but I'm moving to South Korea in a couple of weeks, just wondered if any of you brainy Empire types know whether it'll be shown that far afield, or is it only being distributed in the UK and US? I seem to remember it having problems finding a US distributor initially, or is that just my imagination?

You mean hopefully drag it out of the mud right? I haven't seen Port of Call but the only films of his worth seeing since the 90s were Windtalkers, Matchstick Men, Lord of War and The Weatherman, and he's made around 20 movies in the last 10 years. I'm not entirely sure his name will be good for long though, I hold little hope for The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Ghost Rider 2? I've also just noticed he's doing two revenge films in a row The Hungry Rabbit Jumps and Drive Angry :-/

On topic though, I read the first book the other day and loved it so have the collected edition on order from play.com, it was due out yesterday but they're still awaiting stock, can't wait to read it all.

@bburdett is dead right.

Before I saw the trailer for Kick-Ass, I had fully intended to never see a Nic Cage film ever again. He's consistantly awful and consistantly in awful films. Hopefully neither of those things will prove to be true when it comes to Kick-Ass.

I wondered how on earth he got into the business in the first place, until it was pointed out that his surname is actually "Coppola".

Suddenly everything made sense.

I know it's TBC but all the quotes about how the studios wouldn't touch it and Vaughan being mad to adapt it seem a little OTT if it gets a frickin' 15 rating.

I used to read Empire religiously but then came that review for T4 which was clearly a very different T4 to the one I sat through...they also ignored Avatar's massive lacking in plot - fun though it was. I've been wary ever since.

God I'm so looking forward to see it!!!
But I think I'll be going alone because I dont think any of my friends are up to see it, too bad. It's tough being a 20 year old girl with a thing for violent movies that kick ass. :P

Frickin' AWESOME.

Chloe Grace Moretz is my new hero(ine). I already loved her after (500) Days of Summer.
The only issue here will be convincing my dad to let me see this... great.
