When I joined the forum I had to decide if I was going to go full in with my unique grammatical conventions. Now that I'm under the spotlight I'll have to make sure I'm following my own rules.

And this new photo of the president on an iPad was brought to my attention by serious minded American political blogs. Obama is an influential figure, and there is a great deal of cultural importance attached to his admiration of Steve Jobs and his adoption of APPLE products.

EDIT: FYI: The wife of Steve Jobs sat next to the First Lady at the STATE OF THE UNION address this year.

In comparison here's our fearless leader eating toast and using an iPad. According to the Guardian Cameron has a specially commissioned iPad from which he runs (ruins) the NHS and checks out the latest unemployment figures. Reportedly it cost �20,000 too, not quite sure how or why tho.-

Aha, interesting! Thanks for the photo and the link. I'm especially intrigued to hear of the price tag on his iPad. When President Obama took office, there was some discussion as to whether or not he'd be allowed to keep his Blackberry, due to concerns over security. In the end they had to devise special technology before the President could risk using the device. I assume that is why the costs on Cameron's iPad (and presumably Obama's as well) were so high - it's a custom built ultra secure model designed for use by a head of state. It probably has all sorts of non standard components under the hood

Exactly - I like gadgets as much as the next person (both buying the ones I can afford and ogling the ones I can't

) and fanboy or not, anyone who likes to keep tabs on the world of tech will have a passing interest in Apple, hence my following/posting in this thread.

Apologies for sounding like an arse who'd just jump into a thread, announce "I don't give a shit about this!" then jump out again, but to expand on my earlier post, in what way is it interesting, surprising or worthy of note that Obama uses an iPad? Like many others, probably one of those who invented a justification for getting one "for work" but spends more time playing Angry Birds on it than anything else!

And sorry King, I didn't want to come across as having a dig or anything - that's not my bag.

iPad Digital AV Adapter REVIEW: 3/5

It works perfectly, but because of the fact the 30 pin iPod jack has to be completely flush with the device in order to get a signal, and the 30 pin cable is loose fitting, it's constantly coming undone whenever you try to move or hold the device. It needed one of those locking style 30 pin connectors that used to ship with some iPods (the kind where you'd press the sides in order to disconnect it).

As it is, it's very difficult to hold the iPad and do video mirroring. You pretty much need to set it down on a flat table.

First iPad yeah, used Apple products since 1999 though (currently running a MacBook Pro, iPhone 4 and iMac). I've been sitting back and waiting on the iPad for some time now (you can see my anticipation for the first generation one way back in this thread), but feel like I finally have a legitimate use for one in the shape of e-publishing. I'm a big kindle fan, and have finally decided to put together a "family" of digital options for a book I'm working on at the moment. The focus on text books at Apple at the moment, coupled with the really simple to use production software means that I can put together something really ambitious for relatively little financial investment. The first stage of the project has cost us less than �1000 (and thats including the cost of the iPad), and we've already covered that on pre-orders alone!

Not bought any accessories yet, looking to get a Moleskine case for it next week though.
