“Everyone gets an introduction in this movie as if they’ve never been in any other movie before. This is a Part One. That’s one of the reasons we wanted Joss to come on board. He wasn’t interested in doing a half-Iron Man 3, half-Thor 2, half-Captain America 2, half-Hulk whatever. He was interested in doing The Avengers Part One. From the very first frame of the movie this is Avengers Part One.”

Great to see we watched four seperate origin movies for nothing!

Oh come on

You can see why they are doing what they are creating.
I think we have seen what we have needed to be seen in (C.A,Thor,Iron Man,Hulk) origin films. Now for something fresh.

It really bugs me - we have had five movies leading up to this. Screw the "getting to know them all" thing - lets great straight into the plot.

I don't think they'll be ignoring what's gone before, as that would be... well, just plain stupid. It's probably more a familiarisation with the main characters. As much as I disagree with wasting possibly a quarter of the movie this way, you can understand how the studios are wanting to make it as accessible as possible.

It still remains to be seen whether they'll mess with what's been established in the Hulk film - the green guy already looks drastically different. Though I've been reading the Avengers prelude comics lately, that link all the films together through the eyes of Fury and Shield, and they were pretty faithful to the films that have gone before - lets hope the Avengers continues this.

Saw the pics but ignored the text; some nice new shots in there.

Latest theory I've read about the invading force - Atlanteans led by either Namor or Attuma. What say you guys?

It's been mentioned on some other forums that it could be these guys... * POTENTIAL SPOILERS*

http://marvel.wikia.com/D%C3%ADsir_(Earth-616)

They look the same (check out the teeth) especially if you pause the trailer for a closer look, and their background fits in with Loki. They were banished to the spaces between realms which I guess is where Loki's been after the Thor film.

The cineworld (Dublin) release dates are somewhat perplexing. It says the 2D Avengers is out the 27th of April (I thought it was 4th of May) and the 3D version is a day earlier???

Official UK release date is 26th April.

Ideally I'd like to watch it in good old fashion 2D but not sure you can unfortunately.

Whatcha mean? There's definitely a 2D version being released, why don't you catch it? Only thing that bothers me is that 3D versions always get priority for the biggest screen. Bleh.

Well all the cinemas around me only have listings for the 3D version for some reason. I've only done a quick check but I remember watching Thor and they were only showing the 3D version but I probably need to dig a bit deeper!

Aye, the multiplexes make more a deal about the 3D showings because they make more money off those but any 10 screener will be showing 2D as well. Although they might only be accepting advance bookings for 3D shows in some cases so that could explain why 2D schedules are absent - same again really, they'll make more money off 3D so will be pushing that for pre-bookings I would have thought.

None of the ads have said "only in 3D" and even a 3D event film like Avatar had a similar number of 2D shows.

I went to see Thor twice last year within a couple of weeks; first was 2D, second was 3D and found that the 2D showings ran almost parallel with the 3D - they tended to start an hour after the 3D showing and were in a smaller screen but otherwise there were plenty of them on the same days.

Was this filmed specifically for 3D or is it post conversion?

Apparently Whedon did look into filming in 3D but found using the tech laborious and would have led to delays in shooting.

I saw Thor in 3D last year which was a post job and thought it was pretty good; it didn't add anything to the film but didn't detract from it either so hopefully the technique is now improving enough that if someone has no option but to watch 3D it doesn't ruin the film. I'll do all I can to see this in 2D (as I see 3D as a gimmick to inflate ticket prices) but if it has to be 3D or nothing then I'm confident it won't be a bad job.

Agreed!! If ever there was an opportunity to jump straight in to the action sans "origin" storylines it is right here.

2D, 3D it doesn't matter because it's going to look shit anyway cause Whedon has no idea how to set up or film a scene.

Well I'm booked in. Would have liked to have gone on opening day but Saturday afternoon it is - and all in glorious 2D!

I can imagine the set-up:

Announcer: "Gentlemen..."

*ahem*

Announcer: "...annnd ladies. When you take your seats in the auditorium. You will find an envelope taped to the underside of your seat. I hope the thank you note and cheque will be to your satisfaction!"

Not even Cameron was in on this one.

.........................................................

I've had a good feeling since watching the trailers and teasers. And each new piece of footage has made me want to see the film more. The group dynamic's going to be interesting and I'm looking forward to the interplay among Iron Man, Thor and Captain America! Should be good.

Sounds like what many of us were expecting - good action and humour so in line with the previous solo films. Wonder if there were any mixed to negative ones they've decided not to post? While I know it's adverse press at least it would give a balanced viewpoint of those that attended.

I've stopped watching the clips and tv spots, it's starting to feel like overkill. Glad there is positive buzz though, I jsut really hope it matches up, at least, to Iron Man's original movie - but with more action.

Early reviews are starting to come in now with the majority all very positive. Some even going so far to say this is the best Marvel superhero film so far. Usual superlatives of epic, amazing set pieces, extremely funny in places are constant. A few critical of the first half of the film BUT the underlying constant seems to be lost of praise for Hulk and Mark Ruffallo!!!

My concerns are being slowly released

Same here. My local is only advertising the 3D and they have the times up for the first two days already. I really don't want to see it in 3D.
