 We have had a few requests for threads in the past relating to charity events and rather than have a number of seperate threads, it made sense to have the one. 

This thread is for regular posters who are doing something for charity and are seeking to publicise this or who are after volunteers to take part in charity events they may be involved in.

It is not a thread to bash chuggers (there is already a thread for this) or for the advertising of charities.

 Hi all!

First of all, massive thanks to the Mods for setting this up so people like me can badger you all to run, swim, cycle, abseil, jailbreak and many other things for charity. Specifically in my case KidsCan Children's Cancer Research Centre

As this is a thread to let you know what's going on let me give you a couple of events we've got coming up that I'd love you to get involved in.

Manchester Velodrome Abseil!
Sunday 7th March
You can abseil down the centre of the Manchester Velodrome - SAS Style for KidsCan.
Places are £30 but you will receive your KidsCan sponsorship materials.
Your sponsorship target is £60, but when you tell people you'll be dropping 140ft down a rope I'm sure they'll pay you to reconsider!

Great Manchester Run!
Sunday 16th May
Unlike other charities, KidsCan are offering you a FREE, yes FREE, place in this year's Great Mancherster Run.
The most popular 10K road race in Europe returns!
KidsCan T-shirts will be provided as will personalised sponsor forms and a www.justgiving.com page.
I'm going to do it too so dust off your trainers and join me!

 Hello all,
In a moment of sheer madness I agreed to take part in not one, not two, but three events in the next month and a bit for my charity KidsCan.

KidsCan if you aren't already aware are the only research facility in the UK which researches specifically into childhood cancers.
No other research facility does this. Not even Cancer Research UK.
We receive no statutory funding and rely on events and the general public to help us continue our work.

So with that in mind, here's what I'm doing.

  • I'm going to be strapped into a 12ft ball and pushed down a hill at up to 40mph.
  • The following week I'm taking part in the Great Manchester Run (10Km) and finally, a couple of weeks later...
  • I'm going back inside ANOTHER 12ft ball but this time I'll be surrounded by 30litres of water and not strapped in so I'll probably come out soaked and mangled.

I'm aiming to raise over £300 so if you are feeling generous please find a couple of quid and sponsor me by visiting

As a few of you may have read in off topic, I'll be shaving my head for charity on the 16th May and will be donating the chopped hair to Little Princess Trust, a charity that makes wigs for children who have suffered hair loss due to cancer treatment.

 hey everyone, being the lazy bugger i am i shant be running or cycling or walking for anyone my fantastic awesome brilliant Mum however is taking part in the BUPA London 10k Run in aid of Breast Cancer Care. the run is at the end of may an she only has 5% of the total she wishes to raise, please please help her to raise £400 (a small amount i know but its all for a good cause) and donate what you can at:

 A year ago I started working as the secretary for a fundraising committee for Naomi House Children's Hospice. I have mentioned at least one of our events before in OT but I ought to make an effort to promote it in the relevant thread.
 
As of this morning, the committee has a blog http://eastleighcommittee.blogspot.com/ and a twitter account @NHEastleighComm so for information, please click and/or follow! (There is a link to the hospice's official website from the blog, for more information.) I am working on creating a Facebook page as well - delayed due to work not liking social networking sites.
 
However, both are brand new this morning and as such, there is currently only one tweet to read. But bear with me, I am at work, after all.
 
A quick plug, then: we have a quiz night on Sunday 13th June at 7.00pm for 7.30pm. Romsey Comrades Club, £2.00 per person, maximum team size 6 people. Message me for further information.

 Some people may be aware, some may not but I ended up volunteering to run the Great North Run for KidsCan (yes that's BQ's charity), and I now have a justgiving page up which is sadly empty at the minute
