^ = Short film

January
Midnight Run (1988)
First film of the decade; it's all downhill from here.
Watchmen: Director's Cut* (2009)
Not much difference, but a few beneficial additions.
Terminator Salvation* (2009)
Pretty stupid.
Avatar* (2009)
Sigourney Weaver's bum in IMAX 3D! No wonder it's doing pretty well.
Driven to Kill* (2009)
Well, I've sat through worse.
Bedtime Stories* (2008)
Shit.
44 Inch Chest* (2010)
Sweary mediation on unrequited love. More of a play than a film.
Up in the Air* (2009)
Slick and fun but poignant and insightful too.
The Lovely Bones* (2010)
Beautiful and upsetting.
Out for Justice (1991)
Any o' you guys seen Richie??!!
The Road* (2010)
Does justice to the source, and Viggo rules.
Funny People* (2009)
Not very funny at first, but it gets there. Quite good.
Attack Force* (2006)
So, so, so bad. Hilariously so.
Rio Bravo (1959)
It doesn't get more fun than this.
Kingdom of Heaven: Director's Cut* (2005)
Absolutely stunning. Never seen the Theatrical cut, and I never want to.
Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince* (2009)
Not enough Snape.
An American Werewolf in London* (1981)
Bit of a letdown, but alright.
Get Smart* (2008)
Not bad.
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Something about a watch? Wasn't listening.
The Old Man and the Sea* (1958)
There's a boy too, and sharks.
Pistol Whipped* (2008)
Decidedly not bad, as Seagal's DTV work goes.
Arlington Road* (1999)
Nice beginning, nice ending, meh middle.
The Apartment* (1960)
Quite brilliant, I must say.
Dracula* (1992)
Much more FFC's than Bram Stoker's, but not bad.
Van Wilder* (2002)
Always an easy watch, 'cept for the pastry bit.
Children of Men (2006)
Not the first time I've seen this, but it felt like it. Wow!
Payback* (1999)
Mel used to be so cool.
Universal Soldier: Regeneration* (2010)
Shockingly, pretty great.
Caligula* (1979)
What the fuck did I just watch?
Salo* (1975)
What the fuck did I just watch???
Sherlock Holmes* (2009)
Ahh, that's better.

Total: 31
Favorites: The Road, Kingdom of Heaven, The Apartment, Children of Men, Universal Soldier: Regeneration, Sherlock Holmes

February
Twilight* (2008)
Fuck the world
Zack & Miri Make a Porno* (2008)
Better than I was expecting
An Education* (2009)
That was nice.
The Secret of Kells* (2010)
Tartakovsky-tinged loveliness.
Joshua* (2007)
What a little shit.
The Station Agent* (2003)
Sweet little gem.
Leathal Weapon 2* (1989)
Funny, but my attention wavered.
Stalag 17* (1953)
The Apartment was amazing, this was too. Officially a Billy Wilder fan.
Doubt* (2008)
Well-written, well-acted. 'Bout it, really.
The Bourne Supremacy (2004)
Best of the lot.
The Red Balloon^* (1956)
Charming is the word.
Executive Decision* (1995)
I only wanted to see Seagal. Not the other two boring hours without him.
Exit Wounds* (2001)
Good fun, way better than Executive Decision.
Gremlins (1984)
Even more awesome than my childhood memories led me to expect
The Last Temptation of Christ* (1988)
Mixed reaction, but as technically excellent as was expected.
Transporter 3* (2008)
Gets everything I love about the series completely wrong.

Total: 16
Favorite: The Station Agent

March
Meet the Parents (2000)
I'm ill. This made me feel better.
Mars Attacks (1996)
Such a laugh.
Withnail & I* (1986)
Stupendous

A little heavy on style, but quite disturbing at times. Also, Ron Perlman.

I have a new years resolution to go to the cinema more, let's see if I can beat this year's grand total of 2.......and one of them wasn't even made in the last 50 years......and the other was Underworld 3

I don't think it will take much next year to beat that.

third yr running - here i am.
After last yrs failed attmpt to see 365 films in a yr (didn't even get to 200), I am setting myself the same challenge again. Watched one already during the early hours, so quite a good start.

January

1st #1 Let The Right One In (Blu-Ray) One of my faves of 2009 and a great way to start the new year.
1st #2 The Sword in the Stone (TV, BBC1) - Still a good Disney movie esp the wizards duel.
1st #3 Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen ((Blu-Ray) Noisy and silly, but diverting enough. Made my headache worse though.
1st #4 17 Again (DVD) - Nonsense, but fun nonsense.
2nd #5 March of the Penguins (TV, ITV3) - Remarkable, but seen it all before from David Attenborough and better too.
2nd #6 Demolition man (TV, Sky Movies) - Not seen since it was released in 1994. It's still an OK film and made me laugh a couple of times.
2nd #7 Up (Download) - I can't get enough of this film. It's just excellent. No, it's perfect.
3rd #8 Way Out West (DVD) - Still one of the funniest films ever made. Stan getting tickled is hilarious.
4th #9 Steptoe & Son: The Movie (TV, Sky Movies) - dated, racist and sexist but it still kept me watching. For nostalgia reasons, you understand.
4th #10 Anvil: The Story of Anvil (Download) - Absolutely heartbreaking doc, but really funny too. Great movie.
7th #11 Face Off (TV, Sky Movies) - still a top action movie but it's completely preposterous and I can't believe Empire gave it five stars and compared it favourably with Die Hard back in the day.
8th #12 Bolt (DVD) - I actually think this is a superior animation. Not quite up with the best of Pixar, but enjoyable. my daughter thought it was hilarious.
9th #13 Inglourious Basterds (Blu-Ray) - I don't care what anybody says. I like this film. Even Mrs Pigeon enjoyed it.
10th #14 Hunger (TV, Ch4 Sky+) - wow. remarkable story told in an amazingly powerful & confident fashion.
15th #15 Forrest Gump (TV, Sky+) - It's ok, but not the great masterpiece some people say it is.
18th #16 The Road (Cinema) - 1st cinema trip of the year and it was very good. Depressing but very good.
19th #17 Almost Famous (TV, Sky Movies, Sky+) - A cracking yarn, but much longer than I'd remembered.
22nd #18 Cast Away (TV, Sky Movies) - Brilliant film. Love it every time.
23rd #19 Cape Fear (TV, Sky Movies) - great movie, not seen for ages. Nick Nolte looks really thin.
23rd #20 The Taking of Pelham 123 (2009) (Blu-Ray) - First time watching it. I liked it. I like most things with Denzel in anyway.
23rd #21 Monsters Vs Aliens (Blu-Ray) - One of Dreamwork's best.
27th #22 500 Days of Summer (Blu-Ray) - Surprised myself at how much I liked this. It was a really nice film.
27th #23 The Taking of Pelham 123 (2009) (Blu-Ray) - 2nd time in a week. still pretty good.
28th #24 Shallow Grave (TV, Film Four) - Not seen for years. It's good but dated more than I expected.
28th #25 Adventureland (Blu-Ray) - nice but predictable comedy.
28th #26 The Spongebob Squarepants Movie (DVD) - Hilarious.
28th #27 The Red Balloon (Online) - it was nice. I'll have to watch it again to fully appreciate it probably.
28th #28 Moon (Blu-Ray) - Remarkable film. Loved it. One of my 2009 faves.
29th #29 The Princess & The Frog (Download) - interesting return to hand drawn animation from Disney.
30th #30 District 9 (Blu-Ray) - Excellent.
31st #31 The Hangover (Blu-Ray) - Funnier than I expected.

February

5th #32 Mesrine: Killer Instinct (Blu-Ray) - Blown away - brilliant movie. Put the sequel on immediately after it ended.
5th #33 Mesrine: Publice Emeny No 1 (Blu-Ray) - Just as good as the first. Gangster classic.
6th #34 G-Force (Blu-Ray) - Definitely one for the kids. Gave me a headache.
8th #35 Youth in Revolt (Cinema) - An odd little film, but it was ok
8th #36 Up In The Air (Cinema) - Not really what I was expecting. A bit disappointing actually. That girl out of Twilight was good though.
8th #37 Daybreakers (Cinema) - I enjoyed this a lot. Good jumpy action horror movie.
11th #38 A Prophet (Cinema) - Yeah, it was good, not as classic as other reviews have said but good.
11th #39 True Romance (DVD) - Classic. More violent than I'd remembered.
12th #40 The Jungle Book (DVD) - My third fave film of all time.
12th #41 Toy Story 2 (DVD) - Excellent sequel. Hope the 3rd one is as good.
13th #42 The Hurt Locker (Blu-Ray) - Best movie of 2009.
14th #43 Ratatouille (DVD) - Under appreciated by some, but not by me.
15th #44 Up (Blu-Ray) - Exquisite. Looks top in Blu-Ray.
16th #45 An Education (Download) - I found this a bit odd. It was ok, and Carey Mullican was brill, but I don't really understand the huge praise it's had. Average really.
19th #46 Push (TV, Sky Movies) - this was just alright. nothing amazing.
19th #47 An American Werewolf In London (HD-DVD) - Never gets old. Such a tighly edited movie too.
19th #48 Up (Blu-Ray) - I think I'm addicted to this film.
26th #49 Coraline (Blu-Ray) - scary weird film.
27th #50 One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (TV, Sky Movies) - first time seeing this believe it or not. It was brilliant.
27th #51 The Shining.(HD-DVD) More Scatman Crothers. And Jack Nicholson. Still truly scary. Jack is excellent.
27th #52 Robocop (TV, Sky Movies) - I LIIIKE IT!!

March

1st #53 Back to the Future 2 (TV, Sky Movies) - Weirdest of the 3, but I like it's ambition.
1st #54 Midnight Run (DVD) - One of my faves. I could watch it endlessly.
2nd #55 From Paris With Love (Cinema) - Tedious and dull.
2nd #56 The Crazies (Cinema) - I haven't seen the original, but I thought this was pretty good.
4th #57 Beware The Moon (DVD) - Excellent feature length documentary about the making of American Werewolf. Fascinating.
6th #58 Fantastic Mr Fox (DVD) - Love the book, so this was never gonna live up to that. Odd, but interesting.
7th #59 Michael Jackson's This Is It (Blu-Ray) - I think this is really good and it's amazing at what they've managed to put together with the footage they had. Should've been nominated for an editing Oscar in my opinion.
7th #60 Dean Spanley (TV, Sky Movies) - A weird film about reincarnation. Very odd.
7th #61 Precious (Download) - Depressing but not without hope. Good stuff.
8th #62 Jumper (Sky Movies) - Daft.
14th #63 Die Hard (Sky Movies) - Never gets old
14th #64 Bolt (TV, Disney Channel) - I liked it.
14th #65 Back To The Future (DVD) - If there was a channel showing BTTF 24 hours a day I'd probably tune in daily. Greatest 80's movie and def in my top 5.
15th #66 The Wicker Man (DVD) - shockingly brilliant.
15th #67 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (DVD) - Sublime
16th #68 No Distance Left To Run (TV, BBC2) - interesting enough doc on Blur but contained nothing i hadn't really heard about already.
18th #69 Harold & Maude (Streaming Video, lovefilm.com) - I loved this so much. I am now going to have to seriously rethink my top ten movies.
19th #70 Marley & Me (TV, Sky Movies) - I admit I didn't watch all of this, but I saw enough to know it's soppy rubbish. made my wife and daughter blub though so it's at least successful as a tear jerker (if you're a big softy)
19th #71 Shutter Island (Cinema) - I had no expectations but it was brilliant. Kept me interested throughout and I'm still thinking about it the day after.
19th #72 Green Zone (Cinema) - Hmmm, I liked it, but didn't live up to the high expectations I'd had. Will catch it again on dvd.
19th #73 Kill Bill (TV, BBC3) - Bloody good film.
20th #74 Wall-E (DVD) - Excellent
20th #75 The Goonies (DVD) - corny 80's fun
20th #76 Titanic (TV, CH4) - Better than Avatar.
21st #77 Hachi: A Dog's Tale (Cinema) - Surprisingly good.
21st #78 The Spy Next Door (Cinema) - Not bad
23rd #79 The Lovely Bones (Cinema) - I thought it was really good but quite odd.
23rd #80 High Fidelity (TV, Sky Movies) - Brilliant film which really captures the stupidity and nerdiness of blokes.
26th #81 Kick Ass (Cinema) - Enjoyed it a lot. Nic Cage was brilliant in this.
26th #82 I Love You Man (TV, Sky Movies) - Funny how men are.
29th #83 Goodfellas (DVD) - It's brilliant. Still can't believe I hated it the first time i saw it. Must've been drunk.
30th #84 Monty Python & The Holy Grail (DVD) - Amazing movie, one of my fave comedies ever.

April

1st #85 Speed Racer (TV, Sky Movies) - I actually like this.
1st #86 Hercules (TV, Disney) - An underrated and overlooked disney animation. I think it's great
1st #87 Toy Story (Blu-Ray) - Endlessly watchable and still really visibly impressive
2nd #88 Clash of the Titans (Cinema) - Enjoyed this actually. Wasn't really expecting to either.
2nd #89 Alice in Wonderland (Cinema) - A good film, but I felt it went on a bit.
2nd #90 2012 (DVD) - Corny but loadsa fun.
4th #91 National Lampoon's Vacation (TV, Sky Movies) - A fave of mine from the 80's.
4th #92 The Little Mermaid (DVD) - Magical. Watched it with my little girl for first time. She loved it.
4th #93 Who Framed Roger Rabbit (DVD) - another fave from my youth. Looks a bit dated now though.
4th #94 Mamma Mia (DVD) - hilarious
4th #95 Rita, Sue & Bob Too (TV, FilmFour) - fookin brilliant.
5th #96 13 Going on 30 (TV, FIVE) - Didn't make logical sense but was fluffy enough nonsense to keep me and the girls happy for just under 2 hours.
6th #97 Jump In (TV, BBC2) - Well it is the Easter holidays. This was like High School Musical without the singing i.e: slightly bearable.
8th #98 The Blues Brothers (TV, ITV3) - Classic
11th #99 Kes (TV, ITV2) - Heartbreaking brilliance.
11th #100 The Boat That Rocked (TV, Sky Movies) - Not too bad but a bit daft really.
13th #101 Over The Hedge (TV, BBC3) - fun family nonsense.
16th #102 Knowing (TV, Sky Movies) - ridiculous but entertaining. Freaked out the youngest kids though. I'n such a bad dad.
20th #103 The Ghost (Cinema) - quality thriller.
21st #104 Matchstick Men (DVD) - love it.
23rd #'105 He's Just Not That Into You (TV, Sky Movies) - very very girly.
23rd #106 Beethoven (TV, Sky Movies) - Better than I'd remembered but still a bit naff.
23rd #107 The Running Man (TV, Sky Movies) - Ditto
24th #108 Predator (TV, Film Four) - Top 80's action.
25th #109 Beethoven's 2nd (Download) - Yikes.
25th #110 Beethoven's 3rd (Download) - Double Yikes.
25th #111 The Monster Squad (TV, Sky Movies) - That's more like it. A top retro 80's family flick. With just the right amount of inappropriate language.
25th #112 Crank 2: High Voltage (TV, Sky Movies) - Craziness in spades. Unbelievably over the top and it's Geri Halliwell's best movie too.
28th #113 Brief Encounter (DVD) - A fave. never gets old.
30th #114 The Disappearance of Alice Creed (Cinema) - impressed me. Great performances. Very tense throughout.
30th #115 Date Night (Cinema) - Terrible. A shame because I'm a fan of Tina Fey but she could do much better than this.
30th #116 Cemetery Junction (Cinema) - Wonderful I thought. Perfectly formed future classic. Surprised how much I liked this. Reminded me of Billy Liar, one of my favourite films of all time.
30th #117 Iron Man 2 (Cinema) - Was looking forward to this but I found it mostly boring.

May

1st #118 The Little Rascals (DVD) - actually quite a sweet kids film.
2nd #119 Home Alone (TV, Sky Movies) - The break-in/torture sequence at the end is still brilliantly funny.
3rd #120 The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassuss (Blu Ray) - weird but ok.
3rd #121 A Complete History of my Sexual Failures (TV, FilmFour) - Amazingly bad.
7th #122 A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) (Cinema) - Not a bad remake but nowt special.

7th #124 Hot Tub Time Machine (Cinema) - Funny funny. I liked it.
7th #125 Lost in Translation(TV, Film Four) - classic.
13th #126 Cop Out (Download) - Like an 80's action throwback. Pretty funny.
14th #127 Brief Encounter (DVD) - say no more. 2nd fave film of mine innit.

Dave B's Cinema Diary 2010

January

23rd - The Road
27th - A Prophet
31st - Precious

Film of the month - The Road. Brilliant adaptation of a difficult book with Viggo Mortensen still proving to be the best actor working today.

Feburary

6th - It's Only a Movie Tour with Mark Kermode

Film of the month - N/A

March

14th - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
17th - Green Zone
21st - Shutter Island

Film of the month - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Some excellent films this month but TGWTDT was a welcome surprise. Tough viewing at times but absorbing to watch,

April

6th - Alice In Wonderland
14th - Kick-Ass
29th - Iron Man 2

Film of the month - Kick-Ass. By a mile as well; as entertaining as it is brilliant. One of the highlights of the year so far.

May

10th - Four Lions
14th - Robin Hood
24th - Bad Lieutenant

Film of the month - Four Lions. A strangely gentle and low key comedy drama despite the subject matter and will leave you with an overwhelming feeling of sadness.

June

9th - Lebanon
10th - The Disappearance of Alice Creed
22nd - The Killer Inside Me

Film of the month - The Disappearance of Alice Creed. A fairly cold and detached film but with superb direction and three brilliant central performances.

July

21st - Inception
24th - Toy Story 3

Film of the month - Inception. Although Toy Story 3 comes a close second, Inception's brilliance is truly astonishing. Likely to be film of the year.

August

11th - Inception
19th - Toy Story 3
27th - Piranha 3D

Film of the month - See last month. Although special mention must go to Piranha, which despite poor 3D, was actually very enjoyable.

September

1st - Scott Pilgrim vs the World
7th - The Girl Who Played With Fire

Film of the month - Scott Pilgram vs the World. Shallow and slightly repeatitive but so much fun. With this and Kick-Ass, the comic-book movie is gong from strength to strength

October

2nd - Winter's Bone
24th - A Town Called Panic
27th - The Social Network

Film of the month - The Social Network. Perfectly directed, written and acted. See it as a character study rather than a nail-biting courtroom drama and you'll get far more out of it. Best score of the year so far as well.

November

December

18th - Tron Legacy
18th - Monsters

Film of the month - Monsters. No contest really. While some have complained there aren't enough monsters, they're completely missing the point. A rare film of substance that sticks with you long after the credits have rolled.

Film of the year - Inception. There have been some great films this year but Inception is the clear standout; intelligent, exciting and imaginative. DiCaprio finally proves his worth as a serious actor.

Just wanting to clarify things. If people are using this thread for films that are not just released at the cinema, how is this different from the top 100 films thread 2010? Cos, to me, it seems like it's very much the same thing if folk are listing all their films viewed.

Just wanting to clarify things. If people are using this thread for films that are not just released at the cinema, how is this different from the top 100 films thread 2010? Cos, to me, it seems like it's very much the same thing if folk are listing all their films viewed.

The top 100 is an ordered list though. This is diary-like, chronicling what you see and when.

The top 100 can be used for that as well. As can 'Today I Saw'. But this is specifically cinema, Gimli, not a general viewing diary. The USP of this one (and they all really have to have USPs to avoid duplication! ) - is the cinema angle. And the combination of threads is effectively a general viewing diary, so there isn't space for one with that title either, just in case anyone tries to do it - that will be duplication.

Forgive me, but isn't this thread the same as the top 100 films thing? I know it's just cinema, but some people are putting in every film they see?

Okey-doke, cinema trips it is. But I've just spent five minutes trying to work out what USP is before I went and googled it

Quick question though! Has it always been a problem using this thread for every film or just since the Top 100 has taken off? This would have been the fifth year running of a thread with the same name that's been used for this purpose, at least by me.
