Back to films, anyone? Films: 3. Alfie (1966, Gilbert) Watched it in film class, and it was a very pleasant surprise. I did expect it to be good, but it was great (despite the poor quality of the school projector and the fact that we had to watch it on two separate occasions which I usually resent). Caine is superb as the titular anti-hero, and the film is brilliant at combining light-hearted humour with deeply unpleasant scenes. 9 Shorts: 1. Cops (1922, Keaton/Cline) {18 mins} RW First re-watch of the year for me, and what a re-watch. Still the best Keaton short I've seen, and this viewing was even better than the last one. Gags (horse telephone), chases (CHASES!), and a wonderful fatalistic ending. Maybe I'll watch The General before the end of the month, meanwhile, this is an easy 10 You can watch it here. 7. Présentation ou Charlotte et son steak [Charlotte and her Steak] (1960, Rohmer) {9 mins} Watched it because Rohmer died. It's nothing special really, with some vague charm, and snow. At least it's short. 6 I'll have a proper tribute in February, methinks.
