people may scoff, but they scoffed when i rated The Princess & the Frog above Up and Wall-E, and time has proven me right on that.

That was the good opinion I was talking about.

I stand by my original rating. As you can see, MOTH is divisive at the best of times.

You don't even have me on your side with that one, and I'm probably one of the biggest Princess & the Frog fans here.

Also, you hate The Host. So you automatically lose at everything.

Yeah, but they said that about the Germans when they bombed Pearl Harbour, and time (once again) proved otherwise.

Incidentally, rick, I see Hoop Dreams is finally due for release on DVD in July, so i'll get to see it at last. Who knows, it might even overtake The Princess of the Frog in my list for the year.....

By his 26th birthday, Orson Welles had conquered the worlds of theatre, radio and film. I am 26 and still eat cereal for my tea. That is why no-one makes films about me.

That might be the funniest post to appear on the forums since the time you wrote about meeting Lester Piggott

Cheers.

Well, that's a mark lost right there, then. Hopefully there'll be a redneck sheriff or lesbian subplot, though, cos that's the two notable things that were missing in The Princess & the Frog.

So. You're as right as the Germans bombing Pearl Harbour.

Will you sign off on that. Just, you know, regs and stuff.

I'm leaving again.

Nah, you won't get off so easily. Last reviews for May:

Features:

33. Ying xiong [Hero] (2002, Zhang)
Beautiful. Fantastic battles/fights, some of the most effective use of CGI on film, and great performances. Also, the colours! The politics was a bit off-putting though because it wasn't expected, so that's pretty much the only reason this doesn't get a 9. Oh, and the Rashomon device was a bit misused, but still. I wish the best aspects of Ashes of Time would be combined with the best aspects of this (Doyle, Leung, and Cheung in both anyway), that would be the best film ever probably. Anyhow, great start to Zhang's work. 8

Shorts:
10. Padal proshlogodniy sneg [Last Year’s Snow Was Falling] (1983, Tatarskiy) {20 mins}
Russian animation rocks. This is my first Tatarskiy, and all I can say is he's awesome but different from people like Khitruk or Norshteyn. This is highly surreal, has a lot of references to Russian folk tales, and constantly breaks the fourth wall. May not be everyone's cup of tea, but it certainly was mine. 9

Gimli wasn't exactly hating on Wild Things, and Elab has been ringing that bell since she first saw it anyway. She's more wrong.

And can we please end the Quinn/Rachel discussion. Neither are ugly, so we can just agree on that. Although Quinn is hotter.
