Calvin & Hobbes is the perfect example of something that transcends what it is; basically, it's a newspaper cartoon, but anyone who's a fan knows it is so much more. It's enlightening, it's hilarious, and it fills me with such joy I could explode.

I find the broad themes of the strip dealing with Calvin's flights of fantasy and his friendship with Hobbs, his misadventures, his unique views on a diverse range of political and cultural issues and his relationships with the peoples in his life, especially his parents not particularly representative of the current US.
