Okay, Okay...

The two best trailers for the decade were for Cats and Digs and The Simpsons Movie, because they made the movies look like they would be absolutely brilliant. Cats and Dogs was poor, the Simpsons turned out to be average.

And where is Zombieland in the best opening sequence list?

What's disappointing here is that, while Empire has published the lists as they were at the end of each year, and I'm sure they were valid at the time, there's been no attempt at any kind of critical reassessment of the past decade in any way, shape or form.

In an attempt to truly re-evaluate the decade, as I have only really become a true film head in the past 2 - 3 years, I'm going through my DVD collection and watching those films I've not yet seen, but that may have some chance of cracking the list.

In the past week, I've already watched:

Almost Famous
4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days
Finding Neverland

And before the end of next week, I intend to try to watch as many of these as possible:

It would be nice if there was still time at Empire Towers to perform a similar re-evaluation - maybe that will redress the Star Wars / LOTR imbalance, and maybe it won't. And no-one will agree with the list totally, but at least we could have a more relevant debate.

First the calendar bitching, now this? Someone's in a grump today. Do you need some icecream, Piles? Maybe a wowwipop?

EDIT: And on Christmas as well! Jesus, what a psychopath. What's next, kicking kittens? Shooting Santa from his sleigh?

The biggest crime against hair in the past 10 years was Eowyn from The Two Towers. Her haircut changes radically about every 10 minutes.

Now I could ridicule Empire's list and say how moronic it is they haven't included Lord of the Rings, but since it's obvious how they feel about Peter Jackson's trilogy let's do something entirely different.

It's so gratifying to be incensed at the absence of LOTR from the films of the decade, go to the forums for a whinge, and then find you've been beaten to the punch by so many others!

Seriously Empire....this matters because it's a matter of trust. If you want us to take you seriously, then you can't put Attack of the Clones in there. Even if you did give it 5 stars originally and have tried to cover it up since!

Please stop lunchtime boozing and come up with your serious list now....

For films of the decade in a foreign language, why wasnt either of the CHE movies in? i seen them and Benicio is amazing?

also in the films of each year of the noughties, why wasnt the hangover in 2009?

It's always been a particularly annoying habit of Empire's to publish end of year lsits before they've actually seen all of the films of that year, a bit like picking a marathon winner 4 miles before the end. I know exactly the reason why they do it but using a marketing/publishers excuse doesn't really wash with me as this is supposed to be an intelligent film magazine, there is zero intelligence in end of year lists that aren't actually end of year.

What is more dissapointing is the fact that Empire haven't gone back and re-assessed these lists. To be fair, it would only be a few films that would actually change the lists (and 3 of those happen to be set in Middle Earth) so depending on how you look at it it's either not much of a deal or pretty lazy that they couldn't do this.

Anyway, in future I really wish Empire would stop this stupid practise - this decade review has shown it up for the terrible idea it is. Although I don't have much hope of this happening, just like I don't have much hope for Empire stopping adding stars to reviews of blockbusters regardless of tone of the review.
