ORIGINAL: JV Mr JV proposed to me last night. We had discussed marriage a few months ago and decided we would at least get engaged this year. The plan had been to get engaged when we go on holiday to Venice in September, but Mr JV told me he just couldn't wait that long so he popped the question last night. When we discussed it before, I had wanted to take the pressure off him by making sure he knew I would say yes but he was still a bundle of nerves (bless) so he asked me in the restaurant we went to last night before the food arrived as otherwise, he said, he would have been too nervous to eat (and it was £16-ish for a main course where we were so he didn't exactly want it to go to waste ). Anyway, yesterday was Mr JV's birthday so we took the day off work and went to London for the day since he loves the place. We had booked a table at Albannach on Trafalgar Square for dinner, never having been there. He knows I don't like any fanfare so there was no bended knee, no ring hiding in a cake (thank god). Instead, just after we had ordered he said there was one more thing he'd like to ask of me, and then he pulled out a ring box and asked me to marry me. There was no ring in the box ( ) because, well, he's not a mind-reader and I don't wear rings so it's not like he could have spirited a ring off to a jewellers and bought me one. In the box though was a note which said "[insert real name here], will you marry me? xxx :)" which I thought was adorable. He went on to tell me all the reasons he wants to marry me, that I've changed his life (for the better, by the sounds of things), and that he doesn't want to be without me. I tell ya, even though I had known he was going to ask me at some point, I was blubbing my heart out. And that's basically it. We had a wonderful meal, very special (I had monkfish for my main course - I've never had anything that fancy before!! it was delicious too). He asked if I would like us to have a glass of champagne or wine and I said that we should celebrate the way we wanted to, not just how tradition dictates, so we celebrated with a pint of Amstel. Afterwards we went out into Trafalgar Square where he rang my dad to ask for his blessing, then we rang all our relatives and texted people as we made our way back to St Pancras for the train back to Nottingham. Quite frankly, it was very romantic, to me anyway. This morning we have been shopping for an engagement ring and have ordered one which should be with me in the next week or two. We have not set a date yet for the wedding but we have an idea of when we'd like it - well, we have the month, but not the year, or venue. It's not going to be a traditional wedding and we already have some ideas of what we'd like. Oh and to anyone who still hasn't clicked... I am a chick, not a bloke. Yay for Mr JV (and JV too)!
