Which event, the MTV awards or the Frank Mitchell/Charlie Sheen Bi-Winning Party? The latter I imagine you just show up on the streets of Belfast and get shit faced in honour of these two titans, the former, I've no idea.

I meant the former, but the latter is sounding better by the minute.

It depends what night you go.  It does get some big names from the world of DJs, and also does live bands on occasion.  The regular nights are run by the guys that do Shine and largely follow the same formula.  Try checking out their myspace page for info on upcoming guests: www.myspace.com/thestiffkittenclub

If you're looking for something very typically hen night, Benedict's would be safe bet. I worked there for about 6 months and hen/stag/business trips pretty much made up the clientèle, you can also have dinner there before hand.

Failing that you could go to shit pit that is Thompsons (boke), people seem to like that it and it's open til yon time.

Yeah, Bendydicks is usually quite popular with the hen parties.  Though the clientele can be a bit dodgy.  My sister (a cop) used to say that half the men there she worked with, the other half she arrested!   The food is pretty damn good though - do they still do that beat the clock deal?

Jesus Belfast CC, two months of events to mark 100 years of the epic failure that was the Titanic.

http://www.belfastcity.gov.uk/news/news.asp?id=2558

What's next, a year long celebration in memory of BBC Soap El Dorado? A national holiday in aid of spit condoms? Putting Nelson McCausland in charge of culture...

I wonder if trading hours will change - hope so! I know originally it was a religious thing with not trading on a Sunday morning because of going to church etc but there are so many people from different faiths living here, times should move on. For a city who is dedicated to tourism and city breaks there is not much to do on a Sunday until 1pm because everywhere is shut.

I'd like to see a change of licensing laws, if only for the fact that areas like Shaftsbury Avenue would be a whole lot safer if there were some sort of relaxed or staggered closing times. However, I'll not under estimate the clout of the puritanical Christian lobby in Northern Ireland, some of which wouldn't have us drinking at all, never mind making it easy for us on 'God's Day'.

Anyone ever been to Escarmouche paintball in Belfast?

I'm dying to go paintballing (never been) and was just wondering if it's any good.

Why oh why do people come up to Portstewart in their droves just to sit in a traffic jam at least two miles long?  Mental.

No, the train does go to Portrush though.  Historically, there used to be a train station but that has long since shut!

Well trouble last night (surprise, surprise), none of it round my way though, where the average resident age is about 87, seems to have just been West Belfast, and of course Ballyclare sat the weekend.

How disappointing. All that trouble at Broadway and no one tried to destroy the Balls on the Falls.

It's nice to be out of the country this time of the month.

Well the Ardoyne went a bit mental last night, from the tweets going about though it seems that there were out of areas rioters and far more people on the streets egging the people on than actual rioters themselves. Concerns today that the Assembly doesn't have any form of sectarian violence plan of action.

Sigh, why can't we all just ...get along?

Here's a little question for you all, does anyone believe that this sort of sectarian violence might peter out in a few generations? Or does that make me sound too hopeful that our current generation isn't as enlightened as I think the majority are?

I reckon folks around my age (26 by the way) aren't ingrained with the same sort of ideals (and yes, bigotry) that perhaps an earlier generation was, and as such will teach our children not to be so concerned with divides and what religion you are. Maybe it's an incredibly naive view and is just hoping for too much but I'd like to think that this sort of thing will die along with our parents.

Didnt i hear that alot of people are doing it out of boredom rather than actually feeling deeply about the sectarian ideals?

Dunno if thats right or not.

Recreational rioting, I believe it's called.

But I see your point. At least fighting the police is a little better than fighting each other (felt odd typing that). Using a contentious date (like the 12th) as an excuse to break stuff instead of beating each other up can only be a (twisted) improvement.

There's a huge social and poverty issue attached to this. There's the argument that you're far less likely to riot if you have a decent job and property to put at risk if you do, and that's before we get to the issue of paramilitary involvement. There were calls after the Ronan Kerr murder to stop referring to dissidents as such and call them exactly what they are, murders. I'd like to see the same attitude extended to the paramilitaries, get rid of the 'freedom fighter' connotations and lapsed political attitude to the 'right kind of groups' and start referring to them as organised crime. They control the drugs, the prostitution and the violence. Time to start taking a much harsher approach to them and the hold they have over certain communities.
