25th Anniversary Box Set announced..... http://www.finalfantasyunion.com/news/final-fantasy-25th-anniversary-ultimate-box-and-ultimania-guides-out-in-december--2113.html quote:
Near the end of the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Event in Japan, Shinji Hashimoto surprised the audience by unveiling what is known as the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Ultimate Box! So what is this "Ultimate Box"? Well, its a box that basically allows you to own all of the 13 mainline titles of Final Fantasy for various Playstation consoles. Here's a list of the games and for which console they're on: - Final Fantasy (PS1, 1 disc) - Final Fantasy II (PS1, 1 disc) - Final Fantasy III (PSP, 1 disc) - Final Fantasy IV (PS1, 1 disc) - Final Fantasy V (PS1, 1 disc) - Final Fantasy VI (PS1, 1 disc) - Final Fantasy VII International (PS1, 4 discs) - Final Fantasy VIII (PS1, 4 discs) - Final Fantasy IX (PS1, 4 discs) - Final Fantasy X (PS2, 1 disc) - Final Fantasy XI Vana’diel Collection 2 (PS2, 1 disc) - Final Fantasy XII (PS2, 1 disc) - Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, 1 disc) The Ultimate Box doesn't only contain all 13 games, but also a special anniversary video disc, Crystal Art Works(an anniversary collection of visual art), a 2 disc music selection CD, Final Fantasy XIV Mogu Mogu Earring item code, and a mini replica of Amano’s 25th anniversary logo artwork with a stand. All of this is for ¥35,000 and will be available on the Square Enix eShop on December 18th. Another related thing to look forward to is the set of 3 Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Memorial Ultimania. The first volume is dedicated to Final Fantasy I-VI, the second to VII-IX and the third to X-XIV. Any one of these volumes contain 320 pages and includes never before seen artwork from the series. Each book costs ¥3,255 and will also be released through the Square Enix eShop on December 18th. Also if you purchase all three volumes together, you'll receive a special bonus (which is yet to be announced). I've been saying for quite a while that a box set/HD collection needs to be released for the older games but for the following reasons I won't be buying this! 1) The price tag - you could get a PS3 or Xbox for the same price 2) The price tag - you could buy the games separately for a lot less 3) FFX - There's a HD remake announced which would mean double dipping 4) PS1/PSP/PS2 Format - My PS3 isn't backwards compatible so that throws the PS2 games out and I wouldn't want to play FF3 on my PSP. Why not release all of them on PS3 discs? Lazy 5) I already own 5 of the 13 games 6) an ultimate edition of FF4 was released on PSP - why include the original PS1 port? again, lazy 7) Probably won't be released outside of Japan anyway! 8) Non-PS3 means no trophy support 9) For the excessive price tag why not include a few more spin offs as 'bonuses' - FFX-2? FFXIII-2? Advent Children? I think that's enough for now - Square seem to be lazy, money grabbing bastards with this release. It would have been very easy to give consumers a competitively priced and desirable release.
