I was amazed not to see Albert Finney, but the rest are all present and correct. My fave is Michael Caine, but then that whole film is my favourite. Albert Finney in his adaption is a close second for me.

1) Fuck you*, who doesn't like the Muppets?

2) He's Michael Caine. He can pull off menacing.

3) It's at the end of the film after Scrooge has (spoiler!) turned nice. Singing is forgiven. Because it's Michael fucking Caine.

* I mean "Fuck you" in a nice way.

 George C Scott all the way for me but i'll happily watch any version of A Christmas Carol, even that damned Kelsey Grammer musical one.
Love that story to bits. I had a Ladybird book of it as a kid and its the only present that I ever got from a store Santa that I appreciated and treasured.
Wish I still had it, the artwork was freat

How the HELL have you left out George C. Scott's great performance?!! He used to be my favourite Scrooge before I saw Sim's perfect take on the character, but he's still a very close second. And to include Mattew McConaughey in the list?! Shocking

You also forgot the Richard Williams Oscar winning 2D animation. With the most frightening Ghosts....Marley and the Ghost of Christmas yet to come. The film scared the
hell out of me when I first watched it on TV on Christmas eve at eight years old..alone..I loved it. I've watched it since and its still fantastic. With Sim voiceing scrooge ..better than that
wimpy Winslet Job!!!!

It would have been nice to see William's Oscar winning short on the list but it would only confirm that this list is clearly right on the money - the greatest Scrooge is Alistair Sim, and none of the others can touch him. Bravo!

What about the late great Albert Finney in the film musical version of Scrooge? Ghost of Christmas Future shows Scrooge his would-be funeral, with mourners celebrating the miser's passing by singing and dancing in Ye Old London Streets to "Thank You Very Much, Thank You Very Much, That's the Nicest Thing You've Ever Done For Me" . Albert Finney excellent as Scrooge and Ghost rating pretty impressive too!

come on you forgot the following

Scrooge (1934) Sir Seymour hicks at his finest
A christmas carol (1938) reginald owens take on the miserable bleeder worth a watch in my opinion even though it's the strangest version i have seen Scrooge's house is incredibly clean.
and i cant believe you forgot the George C Scott version.
also the best version of the lot Albert Finney.
call yourselves film fans...Bah fucking humbug.

I agree with many in this comments. Where do you leave George C. Scott, Scrooge in the fabulous "A Christmas Carol" of 1984. It is a great adaptation and deserved a mention.

You know, much as I absolutely adore Alistair Sim in, well just about everything, I still can't bring myself to give anyone a better accolade as Scrooge than Michael Caine in The Muppets Christmas Carol.

The video from 1990 released by the Hughes Leisure Group, who made other animated features such as Robin Hood, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea etc., has my favourite Scrooge in it. No clue weho voiced him and the video I have is probably the last copy owned except bythose who made it. If you find it, checki it out. Animation is a little shoddy but Scrooge is a real bastard in it.

Patrick Stewart all the way!  Easily one of the best versions.  Tiny Tim and the Cratchetts are particularly pathetic in this version; epic poverty points.

Agree with everybody lamenting the non-appearance of Albert Finney, shocking! (Although Patzi may wanna check his/her facts, was even more shocked by the late, great bit, if only temporarily). Sort it oiut Empire, no Finney, not definitive!

The musical was and still is a cristmas tradition if it is shown on TV. Damned scary and jolly.

This was a fantastic feature, nice work Empire:) Having seen most of these adaptations, my personal favourite is Alastair Sim. His is such a fantastic performance that makes Scrooge, often just a characture, so human. His giddiness at the end is so joyful to watch, my heart swells with happiness every time I see it. Second personal favourite is Michael Caine and I love the Blackadder inversion of the story. I enjoyed the current film, espcially for the 3D though, but Jim Carrey was great apart from his ghost of Christmas past which was annoying to me. Oh, by the way, your 'smoked his weight in crack line' made me laught out loud! Great work:)

 Empire blow it again with another of their stupid lists. The musical version of Scrooge starring Albert Finney is simply one of the most timeless versions out there. Finney is a nasty piece of work, while the ghosts are great. There's a real charm about the movie, which I watch at least once every year. Can't believe it's not on here....actually....I can. I also own Scrooged & Muppets - these are the 3 top version of the story IMO.

I didn't know that Blackadder's Christmas Carol was a movie Scrooge... Still, a nice twist on the story> And Sim is still the only true Scrooge.
