Go this weekend and revel in watching parents having to remove their little ones from the theatre after 20 minutes. This is not what they're advertising. It's proper Christmas Carol; dark, unsettling and unrelenting. Save a chase sequence late on Zemeckis has been way more faithful than I expected. Some of the motion capture bothered me, but its still a work in progress medium and has come on leaps and bounds in just a few years. Stunning looking film, and a worthy effort to add to the small number of adaptations of Carol that are actually any good. Wow will Disney have a problem after opening weekend though!!!!! They need to play up its seriousness in a week's time and pull in the adults that are just not expecting what this film is. I fear that many of the critical reviews will focus on what the film is selling itself as, rather than the film that is infront of them. I fear Empire will do the same. We still have a long way to go before there's a general acceptance that motion capture and animation can be used to make something that doesn't have to pander to children. The film is well worth your time.
