That's two mods now who have failed to comprehend Swords' opening post and the comment about trilogies

It had to be said though, I'm tempted to do the same!

I read it - it's why I'm not posting a list. Fed up arguing the toss on it, mind.

Stupid mods!

I'll edit mine now. I'll just put FOTR in and the other two will have to lose out.

This was pretty tricky so I might come back and change it as there are so many things that I've really enjoyed this decade. I'd like to have almost anything made by Del Toro, Nolan or the Coens and almost all the Pixar films, but I've had to make choices so here's my list...

1. El Laberinto Del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) - 2006, Guillermo Del Toro
2. Memento - 2000, Christopher Nolan
3. The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring - 2001, Peter Jackson
4. In Bruges - 2008, Martin McDonagh
5. Sen To Chihiro No Kamikakushi (Spirited Away) - 2001, Hayao Miyazaki
6. The Descent - 2005, Neil Marshall
7. O Brother, Where Art Thou? - 2000, Joel Coen
8. Lost In Translation - 2003, Sofia Coppola
9. Donnie Darko - 2001, Richard Kelly
10. The Incredibles - 2004, Brad Bird
11. The Others - 2001, Alejandro Amenabar
12. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind - 2004, Michel Gondry
13. Volver - 2006, Pedro Almodovar
14. Coraline - 2009, Henry Selick
15. The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King - 2003, Peter Jackson
16. Cidade De Deus (City Of God) - 2002, Fernando Meirelles
17. Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl - 2003, Gore Verbinski
18. The Man Who Wasn't There - 2001, Joel Coen
19. Sunshine - 2007, Danny Boyle
20. Das Leben Der Anderen (The Lives Of Others) - 2006, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck

A good friend of mine suggested that I should compile this list some time ago - anyhoo, Snake-Eyes' Top Ten Favourite Films of the year so far (bear in mind I have not yet seen NINJA ASSASSIN or AVATAR, though I hope to add them to a list someday if they are as cool as I hope)...
  1. GLADIATOR
  2. RAMBO IV
  3. THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM
  4. BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF
  5. ROCKY BALBOA
  6. COLLATERAL
  7. THE MIST
  8. MINORITY REPORT
  9. PAN'S LABYRINTH
  10. FREDDY VS. JASON

You can change your list any time before Jan 1st, as long as you edit the original post and don't put up a new list. That's just confusing. Mine will probs change as I hope to watch a few a second time before then. And There Will Be Blood for the first time.

With regards the Trilogies thing, I felt it would be fruitless to spend ages debating over how we should vote for them, so I made an executive decision. If it's a big problem just vote whichever one you think represents the trilogy best.

Personally, I would say that you may as well let people vote for the trilogy as a whole. I mean, really, it's just one film separated into three for the purpose of convenience, No? Then again, maybe we could just not count votes for Lord of The Rings at all... might make for a better overall list

I was planning on holding this poll in the new year so I'd be perfectly happy to help you count up the votes, mate. However, I'm not gonna be posting a list until I've seen the remainder of this year's big releases and caught up on some others that I've yet to see. I'd imagine most people would rather do this as well... at least it will limit the amount of people that will be constantly editing their lists.

Agreed. I'll probably post a list around mid December time just in case the likes of Where the Wild Things Are delivers on my expectations. Plus I need to think whether There Will Be Blood is worthy of top spot (which to be honest, might just be as it gets better everytime I watch it.)

Have a good idea how my list will pan out, at least the top three or four,  i have no fear about posting later in the week and then editing if it changed later.

I've only seen There Will Be Blood once and while i was truly gripped and intriuged by the strange nature and craft of it, i can't include it in a top twenty yet will have to see it more.

What I might even do is come up with a provisonal list, then watch them around Christmas/New Year time. That way I'll have a better idea of what deserves to be where....

If anyone is interested, The Times came up with their top 100 today.

http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/article6902642.ece

Annoyed to see Last King of Scotland that high - mediocre doesn't begin to cover a description of that film. Good central performance from Whitaker, but McAvoy was immensely irritating, and they added in a totally ridiculous romantic subplot that didn't work.

Also, not seen Hidden but I was surprised to see it at number 1.

The link isn't working for me - but is it as bad as their top 100 of all time?
Or the Telegraphs top 100 - which I think is supposed to define the decade rather than a claim to greatest films as there are some bloody awful choices and the basic message for about 3/4 is that the Oscar choices define a decade.

Why is There Will Be Blood 60th or something, yet something like Slumdog is 6th? Honestly, personal opinions aside, there can't have that much of a gap in quality between those two (even if TWBB is infinitely better). The Queen 9th, City Of God and Memento 66th and 68th respectively? Piffle.

What interested me about The Times list the most is the choice of liberal films sprinkled throughout the list - I'd never expect to see Bowling for Columbine or Inconvenient Truth in a list they did, because of the politics.

Other than that, its like any list. There are odd quirks - The Last King Of Scotland is absurdly high for example - but mainly its a bunch of films I enjoyed, just not in that order.

Speaking of my order, I'll have a think, and get back to you. Then edit the shit out of it for weeks on end.

I did say terrible films

But they are arguing something along the lines of defining the decade - only problem is they don't bother giving a proper argument for including most of the films. And apparently the Korean new wave is all about 'horror'

Whilst I agree with most of the films on the list, the orders all over the place. Nice to see Hunger & Diving Bell high up on the list, but the Last King of Scotland the 7th best film? The Bourne pairings number 2?  I don't think so....they're good, but they're not that good!

I don't mind Last King of Scotland much actually, the film did feel like seen from a European's perspective and how incredible and unbelievable the situation in Africa can be for him or her. Team America though must be the worst offender (pun unintentional), it's not even remotely that good.

I almost forgot that one...

Yeah that's just madness. And as much as I like Michael Haneke, it's a bizarre choice to have Cache as number one when the top five consists of Team America and the Bourne Films....

Last King of Scotland is a good film, but no way is it the 7th best of the decade. It wasn't even the 7th best of that year!

Both of those lists need more Pixar and LOTR!

And how is The Queen so high in both of them?

Can I be a suspect again? Please?

Much more better!
