The strange thing is that the unused movie posters of Moon, From Dusk till Dawn and Hellboy 2 are actually better than the ones used.

Indeed, its a pity studios will normally take a floating heads/photoshop job over something where real work went into it, not that any of the movies above have bad posters its just a lot of modern movie posters look...impersonal I guess is the word, like anyone with some photoshop knowledge and some publicity shots can knock together a one sheet, this is still my favourite movie poster ever:

Its a pity Universal didnt have the balls to go with this Hannibal concept poster, its awesome:

That Rocketeer poster was an unsed one? Oh please tell me they didn't use this one..........

I think this further proves that Hollywood is controlled by wanking, mentally deficit, unbeliavably idiotic morons.

At least 12 Monkeys had a good one.

Fuck some of these are amazing! Actual pieces of art. It does suck that studio's so often go the generic route. I'm sure it has a lot to do with getting your 'Stars' faces on them. But even then they could try sometimes doing it with some creativity.

Also, its rediculous how often the Star Wars montage design has been copied (and usually cheap looking photoshop jobs). Damn, get some artists and do your own thing!

And Krudler, yes that Rocketeer Poster is one of the best ever! And I can tell you it was used in the US.

Another favorite of mine is this one...

Also they really should have used this...

This was used. I saw it in a copy of The Beano in 1985 (think I still have it) and it was the first time I'd heard of The Goonies. I also used to have it on my wall

I think that cool Rocketeer one was used in the press too, sure I saw it in an American comic years ago.

This is more a fan-made poster, but my god it's awesome. If only I could have this on my wall.

As with Homer's Serenity poster this is a fan effort rather than a studio created one. It is very cool though

That was used, as a teaser poster. Kinda wish they'd had the guts to use it as the final version.

I second what The Disciple said this was used as a teaser poster it was up in my local cinema and i also have 2 copies of the original poster that i got from the star wars magazine, not just a reprint and it stats on the bottom not for resale to be returned to Lucasfilm, worth a bit of money.  Heres one on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Cinema-Poster-STAR-WARS-THE-PHANTOM-MENACE-1999-1shAdv_W0QQitemZ160369244153QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_DVD_Film_TV_Film_Memorabilia_LE?hash=item2556c077f9

Its one of my fav posters as it shows this is were it starts but this in the shadow is what is going to happen.  Also it helped get me caught up in the whole hype of EPI at the time.
