it might get cheaper after release but paramount pricing is bit dodgy.

Ok. I'm not a Trekkie. I've never watched any of the movies and I've not even seen an episode of the show (in any of it's incarnations).

However, I've always been interested in getting into it but I've been put off by the prices of the boxsets. Am I better off starting with the movies or the tv series itself? Any help would be appreciated. Oh and feel free to mock me for my lack of Star Trek contact.

go with the tv shows starting the original series season1 or 'next generation' season 3.

the movies are more action orientated and less of the feel of the ideas/concepts you will get from a tv ep.

The original series 1 and 2 are great but it's probably better to sit through the original cast "trilogy" of 2-3-4 which are less costly. Perhaps rent the first few discs of season 1.

Thanks for this. It's looking like TOS is the best bet. I'm looking to pick it up on Blu Ray so it looks like the complete version of TOS provides the most value. Does anyone own this to confirm it's value for money?

season1/2 are excellent but there is a drop in quality in season 3, though 'tholian web' and 'enterprise incident' are cool eps.

buy those two and wait for 3rd to get cheaper.

Looking forward to my First Season of ST:TNG arriving on Monday, but already excited about the next boxset (more so if it was cheaper mind you!)
Here's a trailer for the Second Season Blu-Ray http://youtu.be/qxcAigWIRLk

I would love to get the Next Generation on Blu Ray but will wait for the price to drop.

same here - TNG on BR looks almost like a different series! will sell the TNG dvds i got soon plus TOS remastered too (as TOS BR has both versions = no comparison) and for the films its a shame they havent done the directors cuts for I, II and VI but will no doubt end up getting the BR for them too (are the extras the same as the 2 disc dvds?)

Hi

Star Trek the Motion Picture lacks the extras from the 2 disc dvd but from Star Trek II up to Star Trek Nemeis all of the extras are on the Blu rays. The PQ I found to be good however I still have not watched the Motion Picture yet. There the only thing I have of Star Trek on Blu Ray along with Star trek - 2009.

the movies are re released in april but not an BD of the TMP DC-

http://trekmovie.com/2013/02/04/star-trek-tng-s3-best-of-both-worlds-film-single-discs-coming-april-30th-tng-theater-screening-april-25th/

shame they can't make same effort to get it up to h d standard as they have done with tng boxsets.

they missed a trick not adding 'q who' and 'family' to this 'best/both worlds' BD set.
