Starts well, surprised (in a good way) to hear a Metallica song as the opening for a film! Finishes well too, in the middle.. not so much action. the Bill Murray section was a little cheesy, overall I thought 4 stars was a little generous, 3 or maybe 3 & a half. And to whoever the knobs were at the back of the cinema giving us all an audio commentary through the whole film... shut up, or preferably go do something better suited to your intellectual capacity. Like skydiving, parachute-free?

Totally agree with Blue Ryan here. This is deserving of 5 stars and sits proudly behind The Hangover as second best comedy of the year. But as a film I actually preferred this to The Hangover. One of the best films of the year for me and the most fun I've had at the cinema this year.

*Spoilers Ahead!*

Stopped off to see this one over the weekend and was really surprised. Breaks the mold of a cannon fodder cast in a zombie flick which was refreshing as I really expected someone to die and the only person who bit the bullet was Bill Murray which was hilariously predictable. The action was well paced, the theme park scene at the end was great and the film was never short of a few "oh shit... that looks like it hurt" moments. I think Colombus narration of rules for surviving the zombie apocalypse was quirky and a good leading point of the film BUT I could have done it without the whole teen romance bit. Something about it just really broke the feel of the movie for me which was fun, not sentimental and involved zombies being beaten to death by a redneck with a banjo.

Zombies dying in comical fashions or to popular music will never get boring. I dont know what I was expecting when I went to see Zombieland - probably some inferior Shaun of The Dead americanisation. I am so glad to be proven wrong. The star of the show was definately Harrelsons' Tallahassee - never has Zombie hunting looked so much damn fun! I haven't had such fun at the cinema for a long time! 5 stars!

This is a survival horror comedy, not dissimilar in places to the second half of ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’, though zombies are clearly easier to kill than vampires. Plenty of tension and ‘jumpy’ bits, though it does drag through the middle. Liked the characters, decent acting and fun to watch. There is plenty of style to this movie and heaps of blood and gore. Better than Shaun of the Dead.

Cheered me up no end! Laughs, jumps, some touching moments, guns, gore and that cameo. Oh and Woody Harrelson is a Legend

This film is ok, saved from being bad by the Bill Murray cameo. But giving it the same rating as Up is just a joke in my opinion.

Couldn't agree more.  Also while the cameo is what is being talked about the most there were many other highlights.  Unlike other posters I didn't think it dragged during the middle section at all.

Zombie films have been milked dry but this manages to provide a good spin on the genre. It's nicely placed humour and human interactions pull it apart from other zombie films and make it a totally enjoyable wath!

Turn your brain off - sit back and let this film wash all over you. Surprisingly infectious fun to be had here - provided you can go along with the central premise.
My only gripe was the one almighty lapse of logic toward the end. The world as we know it - is literally crawling with flesh eating zombies - so what do those two dumb ass girls do? No - I won't spoil it if you haven't already seen the film.....but let it be said that lazy script writing and plotting can only serve to harm a film rather than enhance it. Oh yeah.....and don't forget Bill Murray!!! Literally walks away with the whole movie - and he's only in it for 10 minutes!!

Caught this in the cinema last night, had the whole place in stitches.  As one poster said earlier definately a rival to the watchmen for best opening credit sequence.  You can't go much wrong with Metallica!

Some good all round performances from the 4 leads and nothing more needs to be said about the cameo, sheer class.

Can highly recommend to all

I saw this last night and laughed my head off. The cameo was really funny and the movie included one of the best lines ever; "you're like a giant cock blocking robot, developed in a secret government lab". Great actors all around. The movie won't change the world but it will be remembered as a great comedy (Yes I said great, not good)! Love it.

Disappointing, after seeing the trailer.
First 15 mins were fun and hinted at a promising adventure, but then it slipped below the murky waters of actually-quite-bland, and never really broke the surface again. Too little Woody, too little splatter, too directionless and not that funny to be honest. Beyond the opening scenes, nothing really grabbed me here.

Incredibly good fun. I can't really think of anything else much to say other than horror-comedy seems to be having a bit of a revolution at the moment.

So Bill, do you have any regrets?

Yeah, Garfield maybe...

This is a shuan-of-the-dead esque horror/comedy that just works. A thrilling, engaging, highly entertining and just freakin funny. The cameo is one of the greatest of all time, one of the funniest things all year.
Definitely see it, its worth the time.

Phew!  Agree, agree, agree.
I was beginning to think I was the only one.  It's alright, but I would personally place it in the Crap to Good Box and not in the Good to Really Good Box.  I can't see how anyone would give it 5 Stars.

Two Stars.  Three if you're feeling generous.

This has to be one the best films of the year, hands down - What great fun, and I cried with laughter at the Bill Murray Cameo - Truly inspired. Definite re-watch value, and clever and quirky without being cocky and self-indulgent - its a very fine line to tread. Absolutely one of the must see films of the year. Go see it now!

Could people reading this thread please try to remember it is a review thread? By its nature there will be discussions of a film. Cameo aside, plot details generally will be discussed in this thread within the context of reviews - it is what the thread is for.

So if you don't want to know what happens in the film - why on earth are you reading the review thread anyway?

Caught this at my local Cineworld last night with the missus and it's a lot of fun! I wouldn't put in the same league of comedy horror like Peter Jackson's early stuff, Sam Raimi's efforts or SOTD but it's an enjoyable romp all the same. Gives the cast enough depth to care about them and contains a pair of inventive set pieces - the closing scene being a prime example.

Oh and then there's that cameo...absolutely inspired!

4/5

It has 'zombies' - beyond that it bears very little resemblance to Shaun of the Dead. But you're talking about sense of humour here, so no-one would have a clue if you'd like it!

When I arrived at the cinema to watch zombieland tickets had already sold out. I was excited about seeing the film as many critis had sung its praises, but I was a little bit let down. Some of the dialouge is very funny, but it's not amazing. The action looks slick, good effects, but there's really not enough of it. I was expecting a grand finale but instead felt that the film just fizzed and then popped. It seemed over way too fast. I thought they'd be in the amusement park a lot longer. Worth a watch, it is very playful and quite clever in parts. Should have been more grindhousy though.
