erm...hi, my names Steflon

and i'm an addict

films are great, i find i go thru phases of what kind of film i like tho, last week i was all about the action sci-fi (que Serenity, Starship Troopers, Aliens and The Trilogy)
right now i'm in a rom-com mood but i lack several of those kinds of film, i watch high fidelity, grosse point blank and Hitch then get annoyed that i havent got Serendipity (yes i'm a fan of the Cusack).

altho whats quite annoying at teh mo is that cos i'm doing a course in film directing i feel i'm unable to completely (to sound a bit wankerish) let myself get completly emerged in the world of the film cos i'm also looking at camera set ups an lighting and paying attention to the production design rather than the story!

I love High Fidelity, in my opinion one of those (sadly) uncommon moments where the film is superior to the book. I watched it the other week on Sky and it inspired me to create a brand new new playlist on my iPod

I was mainly referring to the post above yours, to be fair

Anyways, yes, I do love film, but I can't help but feel that becoming obsessive over it has spoiled it for me, in a way. I long for the days of my youth when I could just watch a film and be entertained rather than feel compelled to complain about acting, writing, directing etc. It's part of the reason I don't read film news so much nowadays, I like to just watch things without analysing them too much.

I hear that. You know its bad when you find yourself willing the film on to finish so you can take notes (in a busy cinema).

Amen to that! Taking Film Studies at college killed the joy of film for me to be honest. I'm glad I took the classes and I learned a lot (that I forgot) but now I over analyse things.

I still enjoy playing 'spot the stunt double' though

Films are great, they look better than music, sound better than art and are easier to rewind than theatre. Perfect art form, right there.

I'm Jonathan and I love film. Although I only started becoming addicted to film after how many classics I hadn't seen, so I have begun making my way through the Empire 500 list.

It's an expensive hobby sure, but you can often find things for cheap.

One of the joys I love about film is when I recognise why it all works so well, when I appreciate something like how great the lighting of the film is, the work and artistry that has been put through. And it makes also other films like Plan 9 from Outer Space even more awesome.

you do not need to know how an artist does what he does to appreciate his art, but understanding can like Dev said make you appreciate it more.
That said some films you really do not want to analyse too hard because they just won't stand up to it.

Outside of running a life and work, film is my biggest time-spender.

Film making (feature and shorts), watching, discussing, analysing, breathing in of film, engulfing film into my life.

Love the art of film making, love the feel of film, love the emotion and textuality of film.

Love the feeling of being a part of the film making process.

I love films. What I love most about films is that there is still so much out there for me to see, a whole world to explore.

Ozu, Film Noir, New Wave, Ice Pirates, Wilder, Classic Ealing - all stuff I've yet to see and I can't wait!

Now this is a movie musings thread I can get with. I love films, don't we all? isn't that why we're all on this site? I love them as much as I do books. Anything that can capture the imagination and make you think more creatively and take a different view on things is all good with me.

My all time fave director is Spielberg (well he's actually my idol) Yet my all time fave film is BladeRunner

I'm not talking about subtexts etc, I'm talking about finding myself criticising a film for something like bad acting/writing, when I'd rather just ignore all that and enjoy the film for what it is. You don't need to understand the inner workings of an engine to enjoy driving a car.

But a car is a tool and film is an art. It's different. And cars are boring.

And if we are compaing films with cars, then surely you would want the car qwo have a functional engine and a working brakes right? Acting and scripts are those engines and breaks. I should be a poet.

Anyway, I watched Billy Wilder's The Apartment the other day.

Call me a huge fan of Billy Wilder from now on. The Apartment was one of the films I've truly warmed up too.

I love films!

Me old man passed away when I was ten and I know it sounds sad but watching films helped me get through it or at least took my mind off things for a while. I used to que for hours before films would start at my local cinema. My most viewed film at the cinema was Ghostbusters, saw it about 15 times, mind you this was back in the day when it only cost about 50p to go to the cinema. First 15 film i got into was Rambo 2, first 18 film was Predator 2. Room covered in film posters, loads of video rentals (mostly cheesy 80's horrors), started getting Empire in 1991 (Hook issue) and have never looked back since.

I don't like not having enough time to watch films and post about them anymore. Let this be a lesson to you all chaps - girls ruin everything!

I did catch JCVD the other night though, which was awesome. Van Damme can act in French - who could have known?
